Whilst browsing around late this evening, I came across this German article about the CLS 420CDI that never made it into production.,

What a shame! It would've been monumental!!

Me too!

I've driven (in Russia) an E420cdi and S420cdi and that engine was amazing! Sounded like God clearing his thoat!

CLS was just begging for that engine...

The mule for that engine was the W210. I had a report in 1998 where it was described as sounding like an Intercity-125.
