I know the answer to most fuel economy questions is 'how long is a piece of string' due to the huge number of variables, but I was wondering if there is anyone using the 3.0 V6 for regular motorway mileage?

I am considering moving from a W212 E220 CDI BlueTEC to the X218 CLS350 CDI BlueEFFICENCY.

People keep telling me they're good for between 40-50mpg when cruising, the concern I have is that my E220 has an official combined fuel economy of 64.2mpg, yet I am only averaging 51.2mpg. Strange given I spend most of my time at 60-70mph.

The official economy for the CLS is 47.1mpg (combined), so assuming my actual mpg is equally optimistic it would suggest I'll be lucky to get 37mpg?

Anyone have any real world experience they could share?

Thank you for that, it does look as though early to mid 40's could be doable...

Reassuring, thank you!

My 51mpg average in the E220 looks to be quite a bit above average, so hopefully a CLS350 will do a little better than the 41.3mpg too then...

Albeit mine isn't the SB, my 218 350 when cruising at 70mph gets around 40-42. Never seen above 50mpg but that was doing approx 60mph.

Good to know, thanks. It is quite surprising how 10mph can make such a difference to economy. Sitting at 60mph instead of 70mph can result in some quite significant improvements, unfortunately it doesn't take me long for my speed to creep back up to 70-75mph.

I had a 2014 SB - average over 12000 miles was 37mpg. Best - once I got to over 50mpg on a 65mph dual carriage way run for about 70 miles. Generally motorway 70 ish mph was about 41 - 42 mpg.

Good news thanks, the consensus very much looks to be early 40's for steady motorway jaunts.

That should do for me!
