Hi all, was changing my charge pump today and noticed that there seems to be a small oil leakage coming from the gearbox on my CLS55.

Is this a common fault? - also how do I check the levels of the gearbox oil?

Car drives completely fine at the moment.

After a long run I can also smell what seems to be burning oil slightly.

You'll need to buy a proper ATF dipstick.

If you have the 7G tronic, there is no dipstick tube you need to check it via the drain plug special pipe adaptor tube and some sort of pump to pump the oil into the gearbox, and it needs to be running at 45 degrees C, its not the easiest to do but straight forward if you prepair properly, oh and the car needs to be level. There are threads on here and youtube videos explaining how to change the oil, checking the level is just the last part to top it up.

Hope that helps

Is the leak between the gearbox and engine? If so, it is most likely the rear main seal.

Not a urgent matter unless it is dripping, just fixed when you can. It's not a cheap job as it needs the gearbox off.

Cool - will get it ordered

Ive searched and can't find anything similar for the engine. I know you can check digitally but would be nice to get an exact measure

You can check engine oil levels digitally on some models but not gearbox oil levels I believe.
