What are our options for beefier HEs to help with IAT recovery times?

I see the likes of PLM etc. in the USA but any UK, proven, suppliers/manufacturers?

I am unaware of any UK stockists, but Fabtech are/were the go to company for uprated heat exchangers for the 55k

I think Gav (merc85) may have fitted one on his last E55.

Hope the Link below helps , Pics in my album buddy

It was the Biggest cooler you can get Without mods to the Bumper or crash bar etc.

I'm seriously considering getting one for my s211 e55 but that has a extra Trans cooler below the rad not sure of the HC will fit without to much mods. Going to give it a measure up next time i take the Bumper off, Probably just before the summer.

Thanks, the pics work and it looks nice and big. Where did you buy it from?

The two I have been considering are the PLM XL (larger than the original) and the Fabtec V2. Both I think have to come from the US

PLM was the one I managed to fit on my car.
First I bought the one from frozen boost which was too big, so my advice is PLM.
Despite the fact they call it straight fit, it will need minor drilling cutting
Good luck

This was the frozen boost one which i fitted to my e55k without hicup but it was a early car without the additional oil cooler under the rad.

370z Frozenboost Water to Air Intercooler Radiator - 26x7x3.5 (Type 101) - TORQEN

Im currently looking at this for my later car which has the added cooler

Air to Water Intercooler Aluminum Liquid Heat Exchanger RACING NEW | eBay

Fair enough. I wonder if any of those would be a good match for my CLS?

I hear the oil cooler under the rad can be problematic if leaky (is it common?). Will check the condition of when I get the rocker covers done next week.

Did you fit the first edition or the newer XL? The XL is very tempting.

My Oil cooler in the OSF wheel arch leaked and i had to replace it along with the lines, My newer e55 is fine but has to additional cooler in the lower valence which may interfer with the Larger cooler. Not sure if there is more or less room with a cls55.

I think the E55 and cls55 are pretty much the same. certainly most of the coolers I have looked at specify both. The PLM XL is probably the one I will go for. See if my son can bring it in next time he comes back from the states.

At that time XL Version was not available.
I am not sure how the newer one will fit, because the oil cooler is just under

It is thicker rather than longer - think I will go for the XL and see how that goes :)

Presuming the PLM will have comprehensive instructions. But... any fitting advice/tips from your experience?

I used perforated strip mounted off the centre slam panel supports bolting to the back of the crash bar using the existing bolts. With the H/e Positioned directly below the crashbar

Thanks! Easy peasy

Hiya Moodi. If you're planning on picking up the XL exchanger soon, please let me know how you get on with fitting. Just want to judge if I crack on with it myself when I order mine or wait until my trip to MSL in a month or two and ask the guys to fit it befor they do some work.

Cheers

From what I have seen or heard, it shouldn't be any more harder than the other heat exchangers (in fact, easier as advertised "bolt on"). I still suspect drilling of crash bar for mounts etc.

Will let you know when I get/fit it... although the latter may not be until April time :)
