Any idea of the potential cost for changing new timing chain and engine cover?
My car experienced a little rattle noise while starting cold.Took it MB dealership at Cardiff & Newport, they found an excessive oil leak and timing chain rattling noise.
I went yesterday for update and it needs a new timing chain and engine cover.I don’t have the bill yet and the car won’t be fixed until next week.I have extended warranty and the timing chain is on it.The mileage is 112000 and the car is a CLS 220 year 2017. I hope the warranty will help make a claim.
Once bills is issued, is it worth going asking around for a better price or better let MB dealership deal with it?
A workmate told me that there isn’t engine specialist in MB garages but technicians only and it was worth asking an MB Engine Specialist.

Thanks guys again for your advice

Not sure I totally understand. If its covered under warranty then why would you want to shop for lower prices? Anyway its almost certainly going to be cheaper at a independent mercedes specialist. I have a 2013 E220 cdi with the OM651 engine and was quoted £800 for the chain and tensioner at an independent mercedes specialist. Also never heard of an MB Engine specialist my understanding is that most technicians are trained on all aspects of the car. I could be wrong.

Give Steve at Avantgarde Mercedes specialist, Clevedon near Bristol a ring for price if MB don’t meet expectations

If the MB dealership is prepared to deal directly with the warranty company, then let them get on with it assuming the warranty is not with MB. If it is, they will deal with it for you anyway.

Having said that, when I had a claim with a third-party warranty company, my local dealership said I would have to do the legwork myself. I also confirmed with a second dealership that that was the current policy. The only way that I could have had a 'seamless' transaction would have been if the car had been repaired by a dealership within the group that sold me the car/warranty.

It sounds as if there has been a problem with your car for some time when the chain has also taken out the timing case!

Anyway. hope you get it fixed satisfactorily; do let us know what the outcome is.

I paid £750 ish fitted for a chain, tensioner and top timing gears - all genuine.

Rocker cover was £150 ish iirc, they are plastic and mine was leaking too from where an excited mechanic had removed an injector…
