just crashed the missus's sprinter....

trying to park it (badly) on a kerb to nip to a cashpoint..

revved it (its an auto) to get the back wheel over the kerb.

stamped on brake.

it wasnt the brake. (brake and accelerator are very close together) - 2 1/2 tonnes of sprinter leap forward into the wall....

damage is:-

Bonnet - dent.
slam panel OK
very slight scratch on grille (black plastic)
bumper scratched (grey plastic)
bumper support bent (gently - will go back)

god i feel a c**t for doing that. <kicks self>

oh dear :( . I do hope there isn't a pattern forming here of blokeys bumping girly's cars :D

I'm glad to say I didn't belt hubby's Voyager as I drove it round at the weekend or backed it out of the drive this morning :D

You have my sympathy.

I was trading in my Audi A4 a couple of years back for my first Merc C270 CDi. Our house has two pillars either side of the drive, guess who hit one on way out? And it was the day I was trading the car in!
I would not mind so much, but I have been driving in and out a least twice a day for the last 14 years.

Regards Paul.

Can't help, but well done for admitting to that!!!

I bet it went well at full throttle!! Did you find the brake before the wall?

Sorry, I don't normally laugh at others misfortune, but the way you have told it is a classic!

I'll own up to sommat too then :p

I did the self same thing in a Ford Escort 9 years ago now. I piled straight into the back of a Tranny Van :D Broke my foot though so not only the car got broke :( So we can all do it :D

i think i had half hit the brake as well as the throttle - but the throttle is 'instant' and the brake is very 'sponge-y' as standard - so 1" of travel on the throttle = lots of revs, whilst at teh same time 1" on the brake = nothing.

no i didnt find the brake in time - but then i was only a foot or so from the wall at the time of brake^h^h^h accelerating...

missus was ok about it - more worried about me  chicks eh?

I did something similar in petrol station in an old Mitsubishi Colt auto. Put it into gear (but not Drive as I had hoped) stamped on the throttle and reversed into a Police car behind me. The whole back of the car mounted the front of the Police car.

Oh! how we laughed as the policeman said "At least it's not MY car".

Oh! how I didn't laugh as I got a stern talking to from the Chief Constable who had apparently been dragged away from some award dinner to attend the accident.

Left foot braking was high on my 'to learn' list after that and I've never looked back - didn't actually look back at the time of accident either !!

Sorry to hear about this, it seems the weather is getting to everyone, too cold for too looong.I hope your sprinter gets back on soon.I am not 100% sure but i think a few months ago i saw some adverts for the van scrapyard in the exchange and mart, have a look. (actually try this - www.247spares.co.uk/mercedes-vanparts/)
hope no one is hurt - thats the main issue.

...many years ago in a company car nissan slx p reg, I too managed to find the wrong pedal whilst edging into a parking space. I missed the expensive merc on one side (phew!) but (un?)luckily there was car park lamp post at the end of the bay.

A guy I was at Uni with had his fiesta backed-into by a Lexus at a filling station forecourt - the driver accidently selected R rather than D. Was only a light bump, but it damaged the chassis on his Fiesta and it was totalled! :(

confession time - I was reversing out of my garage in one of previous cars, a fiesta zetec s, and was in a hurry. Checked my mirror and reversed a bit too quickly out of the garage and straight into my uncles company car mondeo...oops. I blamed it on him as he was driving into the driveway to fast...but basically we were both a pair of idiots! Me being a stooodent at the time managed to blag him into paying for the damage as neither of us wanted to claim...He works for Ford as a production manager so got the fprds repaired pretty much free. He was quite handy actually - i only paid 8000 for a 12000 car in the first place then had him repair it...

i'm a cheeky so and so

As the confession booth is open...

Having just passed my test at 17, I raced into the drive and then (wanting to show off to my younger bro who was in the car with me) reversed at speed to paralell park next to my mums car. I misjudged the 90 degree sweeping reverse manoevure and went for the brakes....

oops! ...yep you got it I hit the accelerator instead  Anyway got away with light damage to mine and totalled mums car (Mitsubishi Lancer)!

Mum ran out hearing the bang and was completely shocked, younger bro shouted 'nothing to do with me' straight away! Anyway luckily no one was hurt and mum got a new car (W202 C180 !) What a result at the time.

Dad thought I did it deliberately to get a new car!!!

Sorry to hear that Guy. Its not our week is it?

As we are all owning up to crashes, thought I'd clear my concience -

When I was younger(A lot younger) I had a Ford Capri, on my way to a wedding I approached a bend too fast and the car carried on striagt. just managed to avoid a head on with parked cars but did side - swipe them. When I got round the corner and a little way away, had to pull my rear arch away from the wheel as the car was rapidly filling up with smoke.....

oh and I was going down quite a narrow road in the same car..cars parked both sides, a car was approaching me and I thought there was enough room for both of us so accelerated....bad move, my car bounced off 2 parked cars and took a chunk out of 1 of my rear alloy wheels...had to get home and change it pretty sharp..

Good to hear no one was hurt !

Might as well join in on the admissions, have a fairly narrow garage and used to park my 03 Civic Sport in it every day for over a year. Day before I was taking it in to trade for my Sports Coupe I caught one of the side mirrors on the frame of the garage which was metal :( Was gutted

It can get worse.

Last year local paper ran a story about a bloke who managed to put his car backwards through garden fence and ended up in the next doors fish pond, killing a number of expensive Koy.

Mr Popular or what??
