I read through the posts and it seems that there no alternative for an upgrade other than removing amp head unit etc. Is this correct?

I’m not sure what you are trying to update? What is D2B?

Thanks - I'm assuming the OP wants to upgrade speakers rather than the source.

If the OP has the BOSE option in their R230 SL then the head unit communicates to an amp via fibre optic D2B, the amp connects to the 2ohm speakers via copper wire. D2B changed to MOST in 2005 model years.

Hi That’s what I want to change head unit something with BT. Looks like I might need to rip it all out

Hi,
If you have the head unit i think you have Comand 2, then I think you could wire in an Aux output, and then buy a BT module.
You might also be able to add a media interface using the existing fibre optic/CAN of the car.
The best people to advise definitively would be Command online.

Thanks. It has multiplayer cd just behind passenger seat in cubby hole. I believe it’s a Bose system. I will contact comand and see what they say

If you have BOSE then it is a headunit and amp swap, nothing aftermarket is compatible with D2B The speakers should be OK though.

Do you have option 810, premium sound. If not then you don't have BOSE and your options open up.

Probably not got BOSE then but to be certain run your VIN through a decoder site like last in.com to get your data card and see if it shows code 810or not.
