Good afternoon. I’ve just bought a 2007 c220 cdi coupe se and I have got the smell of diesel in the car. Now I think it’s coming from the boot. When you lift the carpet at the front there is a plastic cover which someone has broken before,on moving that out of the way you can see some electrical things which seems wet and smells.
I don’t know for sure if that’s it but I think so. What is it and how can I seal it up?

It looks like this. You see someone had ripped the plastic out of the way at some point in time too

Mmmm - doesn’t look good.

Did you notice this pre-purchase?

When was it last MOTD? Has someone bodged something the last MoT?

No didn’t notice it as I bought it off my uncle.
motd until November. Why do you say it’s botched??

The access to the fuel tank senders is under the back seat on a w203. Not in the boot. Unless it is different for the coupe.
I can see the rust. Is that wet with fuel ?

That might be the sender unit , looks different to any I've worked on before though ...

If that area is wet and it is diesel , best thing would be to run the tank as low as possible , Diesel isn't volatile like petrol , so relatively safe .

If you are planning to DIY , go to the dealer parts dept and get a new gasket , take out the sender unit , clean up rust and paint with Hammerite or similar , then refit .

See how it goes .

Well I’ve had a look at this and I can’t remove said part. There is no screws or bolts on it
