E220 CDi auto Engine & box 2002 transplant into E220 CDi Auto 2006 . Has anyone attempted it successfully ?

Hi People. I have an old E220 CDi auto Estate 2002 with a good engine and box.
Recently bought an E220 CDI auto saloon with a faulty gearbox.
after the garage attempted to repair a leak on the gearbox , it no longer changes gear from low. Tiptronic unable to select gears .
Is it easier to just remove 2006 engine and box , and replace it with 2002 (lower mileage ) engine and box ?
I'm OK on the mechanicals , but the electronics are a worry . Can anyone with experience , advise @

Do the engine and transmission ECUnnumbers match?

Are there any differences in the engines between the two model years?..Looms may be different
