Ours is a W211 and am wondering how long things are likely to last before going south in a major way.

The miles in it are nearly all motorway miles - put it this way, the original Michelins on the rear lasted 48000miles before needing replacement.

The car is serviced on schedule by a main dealer and it's cleaned & valeted regularly etc.

Am hoping for a minimum 150,000miles out of it before anything major is needed - gearbox repairs, driveline problems etc

Is that doable?

Would be grateful for considered opinion.
cheers

:)

Mine is a 210.
Done 117,000 miles with no problems (other than early electrical)
Current Michelin`s done 46,000-all four of them.
I would advise regular servicing in accordance with the manufacturers schedule, preferably with a good independent such as Olly, S-A-M-U-N-I-T or MB Tech depending on where you are situated.
An ATF change (if auto) should be done say every 60,000 miles.

Enjoy your car and happy motoring.

I have an 03 W211 E270CDi. So far out of warranty I've had to pay for:

80k miles - ball joint thingys - typical merc problem
100k miles ish - water pump and aux belt tensioner failed, common aparrently
110k rear subframe bushes
125k Alternator failed (this week)

Also had issues with seat not locking in position, but otherwise I'd consider it reliable.

Brakes and tyres last longer than any other car I've owned. Windscreens seem to crack easily (had two replacements) and I'm disappointed with the quality of the wheels (badly corroding) but paint, fit and finish are there to last.

My 210 220 cdi had 226k miles on the clock when I stuffed it up the back of another car a couple of years ago

She was running very sweetly with no large bills incurred and I was expecting at least another 100k miles :(

As has already been said look after the car and it should look after you :)
