E250 or E350 CDI Estate

We've decided to sell my husbands Range Rover Sport. He's owned it for 7 years now and it's time to move on. He's doing research on what he'd like next; which is a BMW 530/535d or E350 CDI (W212). However I've said to him about an E250 estate as mine is a E250 cabriolet (A207) and has plenty of pull when you need it. We need an estate as we have 2 dogs and the space/versatility they offer. However he's focused on something with decent shove. I'm pretty sure he is swaying to an E class over the BMW but reality would a 250 be a substitute for a 350?.

BMW is generally a better drivers car but the dogs may not appreciate it. Also, suspect that the MB has more volume/space.

We're all different but for me it's 350 all day long. Yes it's more powerful but, to me, it's much more about the way it delivers. It's far far smoother and that's what I treasure in that sort of car.

I have a pre-facelift E350 CDi saloon with the newer 265bhp engine.

It’s an absolute peach. Smooth, refined and quiet and plenty of grunt when needed/wanted. It’s a lovely drive too. Thoroughly recommended.

Before deciding make sure you are fully read up on adblue problems , Nox sensors and nearby city clean air zones .
Do you do enough mileage for a diesel ?

Well he does 22 miles a day mainly on B roads (we're in the sticks) and I've had mine nearly 10 months doing less miles but occasional Heathrow trips and have had no problems with DPF getting needy. Even if he chooses a 350 petrol, there simply isn't many about........

I know there aren’t that many petrols around , a lot of us are in the same boat with that .
Nox sensors £1000 (for the pair ) ?
Adblue tank £1000+
It was just to make you aware so things don’t come as an expensive surprise .
The 350 is a cracking diesel engine .

Mmm so some reading on here implies Blue efficiency is OK, blutech is bad?. They were old posts so is that still the current thinking?.

A dumb question I suspect, but do the rear seats in the A207 flip down?

Yeah we saw that but it's blutech. He's also mentioned another 350 in Mercland but again blutech, although this morning you can view the summary on their website but once you try and open it it's "site unavailable. So perhaps it's gone?.

Well after some viewing over the weekend and to cut a long story short, he/we have purchased a CLS220 Sport brake, 64k with full MBSH and 2 owners. Have to say we're quite excited and a lovely example. Collecting it on Friday.

Well here it is. We picked it up on Friday with the reserve fuel light on, but we chickened out and put a splash of fuel in on the way home. £28 of diesel took it to just under half a tank. Very refreshing after the Range Rover was £120+ all day long to fill. As per our test drive it was so comfortable and I'd admit it to being as comfortable as the RR we'd just traded. We're both still trying to see what's what regarding the tech but the condition of the car great. Insurance is £55 cheaper and the £190 car tax is refreshing. We put a Travall dog guard in and hubby has dropped a line to the previous owner to see they offer up information about the car, whilst I've cleared all the previous satnav and telephone history. Is there a way he can have his own account on the forum?. Anyway for now...
