just put a deposit down on one of these- a 56 plate.

not come across much about the E 280 CDI so would appreciate the heads up on what to look out for/be aware of.

i must admit for what i am paying- from a garage - i am thinking its too good to be true even if its got 120k on the clock - but with FMBSH

i was looking at 53/54 plate models before i came across this one for the same pricing.

280CDi is the same V6 3 litre turbo diesel as you find in the 320CDi, just in a lower state of tune. Very smooth, very relaxed engine with a decent turn of speed - I liked it a lot (did over 70k in mine before I sold it last autumn). If you did find the performance a bit light then it's a very easy car to chip. One or two issues with the V6 diesel - inlet port motor can go for example, which is just a pain to get to as it sits underneath the turbo (and failure is sometimes caused by a turbo seal leaking). But if it does go, it's 450-600 at an Indy, so not life threatening. Your car will I guess have the 7 speed auto - I liked this a lot and had no problems, though reviews on here can be a bit mixed - seems to depend on software updates, or perhaps simply if you have a 'good one'. But at that mileage if you have a good box then I would guess it will stay that way.

For more and more informed views do a search on here for V6 diesel and 7G. I would also recommend getting it checked over by a decent Indy - so you are aware if there are any major faults before you have had it too long to roll it back to the dealer. Olly (BlackC55 on here) at PCS in Horndean is excellent if you are within range of there - knows these cars inside out.

thanks for that info- i believe there is- or was a merc specialist in North manchester where i might try to get it looked over- where i am buying the car- but i have been in asia for a while so things may have changed..

just for info i am paying a tenner less than £6k for it - with FMBSH and full leather and command- seems cheap to me???? but not complaining if its a decent car- tho currenly only seen it on t'internet....
