Hi all.
Just looking at a 2008 E280 Sport with high miles 243K. It has just passed an MOT but looking at the past History it failed in 2019 with
  • Exhaust emissions test aborted because smoke levels are significantly in excess of the specified limit values (8.2.2.2 (f)) & in 2020 with
  • Exhaust emits excessive smoke or vapour likely to obscure the vision of other road users (8.2.2.2 (c)
On both occasions it passed when re-tested.

DPF related?

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Many thanks

Regards Rob

My 2009 E320cdi doesn’t have a dpf , so odds are it doesn’t have one , might have been used for short journeys , failed the test , had an Italian tune up then passed ?

Many thanks all the same!

It's a guess by W1ghty - but a good one - if the car does not have a DPF. Take a look at the mileage between MOTs - if it is low then there is your clue. Having said that you are going to have to expect to spend some money on most 200k+ mile cars.

Expect the pulleys for crank and accessories, cam, valves and springs to be weak. Unless changed the Ac system components will be weak as well, this area is sure to cost you. Better get an AMG version for the same price and invest on it for performance. If you want a daily driver, invest in a less than 80K diesel and you run it for 200K mi. This purchase is something you will regret soon in to the maintenance intervals.

Check this out as well. This seems better than what you are going for
