Car
merc jaguar
Hi all I have been offered a car that has 40,000 on the clock with full MB service history ,i have been after this car for years and am seriously tempted . it is fully loaded and cost 42k new and has just been serviced by MB , i was just wondering how everyone else finds these models in general:bannana:

Don't waste time on here...go and buy it quickly before someone else does.

funny you saying that but i have been after this car for years and the price is dropping every year, it is an avantgarde model with loads of extras , only 3 issues a slight scratch, the other half loves her 190d and the price is abit rich

biggest issue with W210 is rust. check it everywhere

Check springs/spring perches, gearbox function, and as has been said, rust rust rust. Under rubbers on tops of doors a hidden spot.

Pay over the odds if it is really really good as that is rare with w210's. Buy a cheaper one, buy twice.

the car has been garaged for most of its life and is spotless but just wanted to get the thumbs up first and where to check , I presume if there is any issues or advices or rust problems it would be covered under mercs paint warranty as it is a one owner car with full merc service history, he told me he just spent £600 getting it serviced and replacing something on the wheel , my mate bought the same model from his mate who had owned the car for years but his has rust bubbling on the front wheel arches which he has now sorted out , I must say he is delighted with it after paying £2500 for it . I am very tempted :wallbash::bannana:

If the car is more than eight years old, you'll get no help at all from Mercedes, regardless of service history. So, as others have said, check thoroughly for rust.

I thought there was a 30 year anti-corrosion thing?

yes I am aware of the 8 years rust warranty as my mate ended up getting a free respray out of merc because of a bit of rust on a wing. I was under the impression that if there is any rust merc will repair or replace under the conditions if the car has been serviced by them since new which it has been, This is one of the reasons I would by it ,i dont think there is any rust as the guy is a car fanatic and would be well aware of any rust issues

Sorry...they will not even look at the car let alone repair it.

the guys wife used it for shopping and he has been using it recently ,when i looked at it a few years ago it had 18k on the clock ,he also has another nice merc . i know the car for years as he is local to me and cannot be clocked as it has full MBSH ,

2.5k is cheap for it mate, do not think twice unless u find a nice w124 diesel

2.5k was for the OP's mates car.

Far too dear. Once you've put a few miles on it, it wont be worth half that. Offer him 2.5K.

yes I make you right I went and had a quick look this evening and it has the rust on both the front wheel arches, the inside is very nice with message and heated seats. I told him i would think about it

If it's never really warmed up (popping to the shops for most of its life) the engine could be no better ... or indeed worse, than one bearing the usual 15K+ per year.
