That's what everyone says but when you're charge cooled then in the real world it doesn't really matter.
Nope. Power lost compressing hotter air. Power lost due to lower air density (charge cooling cannot compensate). Two hits. The first won't even be understood by them I'd wager.
 
Sort of correct....which is why he later changed it for this......but then discovered that when moving above about thirty the intake temps where the pretty much same. It only gets hot under the bonnet when not moving.....otherwise there is loads of cool air being forced in there. Its a bit a myth that under bonnet intakes affect power........ once moving.

Where do you think the heat from the radiator and intercooler are going?

The supercharger makes the air hot whether it comes in cold or hot. The charge cooler then nets you a similar end result on the air going into the engine, as evidenced on the move. Doesn't really matter when you're standing still as you're not trying to make 700hp.

Yes Agreed 100%. I have tested a few cars during tuning, by placing air temp probes in the engine bay, or inside cone filters that are in the engine bay. Once above 20mph, temperatures at the air filter inlet equalled ambient air temperature. Some cars/platforms have restrictions in the OEM air inlet system (packaging reasons, NVH reasons etc) that mean a "hot air" intake is a worth some power at the higher RPMS. In my experience, the difference in the real world is negligable. Heat soak becomes a bigger issue at low speeds/extended idling though, only really noticed at the drag strip when staging!

Add onto that things that water/methanol injection, big charge air coolers, it becomes less of an issue, depending on what is doing the compressing!

Which cars? What power outputs? Petrol or diesel?
 
I will collate a list for your perusal. From supercharged 4 pots, to twin turbo v12's and a few inbetween. Once you have test data for one chassis, you don't need to reapeat ad neasueam.
