I don’t usually post on forums but I thought this one was worth posting as it saved me thousands. I had the “electronic rear diff lock inoperative” message come up on my dash, I put the car into drift mode but the diff was staying open. Only 1 wheel was spinning. Wanting to do things properly I took the car to Mercedes’ they said the diff has failed it will cost £4700 inc labour etc, decided to take the car to a mechanic friend of mine to check it before replacing. He pulled the diff off and opened it up to find the DC motor had failed causing the diff lock sprocket to jump out of place. I replaced the DC motor which was £290 and realigned the sprocket. Put new seals on whilst it was off and put it back on the car. He cleared the fault on the dash which wouldn’t clear previously and hey presto she’s good to go again. I did a lot of forum searching for the diff lock problem & a lot of people saying the diff is scrap so I just wanted to put this here in case it can save someone else a fortune. Cheers

What do you mean, "realign" the sprocket", to what? Is there an index or zero? Can this be done without taking the diff apart or out? Can I just spin the sprocket to one extreme CCW or CW?? There doesn't seem to be a stop on the motor, so it looks like the motor spins until it stops in one direction. I've got a motor coming and trying to understand what needs to be done. And what year is your car? Thx

Hi everyone, i recently purchased a w213 e63s 2018 ive had the car for 6 months and it was all good until one day the car has a engine light came on and it turned out to be a misfire issue. then it led to a rear differential inoperative error code showing once i went to collect my car from the mercedes service few days later misfire again faulty coil replaced the rear diff issue still there car doesn't start when it shows. the car works fine if restarted then the engine cuts off a random time, fuse box was checked and replaced the one as position G. all work was done by mercedes specialists and team its been 1 week since and i dont know what to do. please advise me. they latest news i was told is the amg specialist think its a ecu problem?
