Car was feeling sluggish had it scanned EGR fault came up. Had it cleaned and was advised to drive in manual mode and take to high revs as my daily journey to work takes couple minutes!

All has been fine for a week, since last night no power at all like turbos cut out, had it scanned today and EGR coming up again. On the values whilst driving it wasnt going above 5% and the intake pressure was around 994.

Question is do i get it cleaned again or go for a used one (how do i know it wont be same problem)
new will hit the pocket hard!

A couple of minutes drive isn't going to do the engine much good at all. You'll get other problems in the long term too. Take it out and give it an Italian tuneup down the motorway.

the week I've been driving it I've really give it a good hammering and its been fine until weekend
Mechanic says because its been cleaned recently it cant be clogged up again so it must be a problem with the electrical side of the EGR and that can't be repaired.
So needs replacing!!!! used one could give me the same issues and a new one is £200+

Well I take it this car will not accelerate,so the italian tune up will not work.you may well need a new EGR,it is always worth investigating the pipes leading to the EGR if the car has been driven short distance over time the pipe can fill up with soot and effect the EGR,plenty of cheap ones on Ebay .

Re the 'Italian TuneUp' suspect some folks misinterpret this and just thrash the car which I don't think is the right approach to the problem. I'd suggest driving normally for 15-20 minutes to get the engine and exhaust system fully up to temperature, perhaps a little longer in winter. Then on a fast dual or M way drop the car into manual and cruse for 15 minutes or so at a steady speed at 2750-3000RPM.

Shell premium a good suggestion.

Hope you get a resolution on this.

Yes I agree, you shouldn't treat an engine hard until it's warm. I would suggest taking the revs a bit higher, not red line obviously but 500 rpm less or something like that.

Not what you want to hear but you have the wrong engine for that journey. Diesels really arent made for short journeys like that - a petrol is what you really want.

Shaky ground with the new 2018 rules around DPF and EGR. Consensus from those willing to blag it says make sure there are no obvious signs of removal/welding etc. I'd leave it standard personally.

DPF - yes I agree, but EGR is usually just a software update to stop the EGR operating. I haven't heard any MOT issues or future plans specific to the EGR.

Removed again today and the straight shaft that goes through the middle is sticking. Despite attempt to free it and clean it's still not resolved. So my options are new EGR or used. Not really sure how much used ones go for and obviously the risks of it failing soon again.

What about blanking egr will car not fail emissions.
It's been a hard couple month already financially so ideally I'm looking to get a used one and get back on the road. Been advised by mechanic not to drive it like this as all the gases are going back where they shouldn't be and could cause more damage.

Quick question peeps
Once a egr has been replaced does it need to be hooked up to the diagnostic machine to reset/ calibrate etc?

W210 doesn't and I don't think the W211 is any different

Quite a lot of forums for other cars maybe not recommend, but don't have any objections to blanking off the EGR

You cannot just blank it off on an MB, it will go into limp mode

fitted a used EGR working fine now. The rod mechanism was very free and smooth the ebay sellers must have cleaned or refurbed it before selling, some of the bolts looked new compared to my old one.

Ive tried to free the old one but no luck, is there any point in keeping it for parts or bin it??
