My daughter just bought a 2008 CLK 200K with folding mirrors...problem is both buttons inside car ( out and in) will only bring the mirrors in..... they will not go out unless you manually do it...... when they come in as they are closing it sounds like the motor is fighting itself..... any advise please

Faulty switch, broken wires, SAM could be on the way out ??? Star diag session would help. Motor failure is common, if both have failed together I would be Surprised.

leave them out , never fold them unless you really have to . The internal Wires are notoriously fragile at the age . I make a point of only folding mine (2006) if I really , really have to.

The fact that you manhandle them in to the out position tells me you are already in trouble . Leave them out.

PS, if the car has 'self dimming' on the drivers side the glass piece alone is £200 from MB.

Thanks for reply... yes intent to leave them out but as I have "?manhandled " them out they are not locked in position and move around a bit.... how can I get th

Usually if they have been bumped (car wash/careless pedestrian etc) they pop out and wobble .

The only way I have found to 'lock' them back out is to electrically drive them all the way in and then all the way out.

For you this is not an option . At this age they can get fragile , finding the electrical fault is (obviously) the first step , the motors work , but only one way , unlikely to be a broken wire on both at the same time (but possible) I would be starting at the switch.

IMHO it will be a waste of money. As someone has already said, the wiring for the wing mirrors will have broken with age. If you are handy. there are videos around about how to replace the wiring, but I believe it is tricky

Thank you.

Not sure of other models but on my 2006 S203 C class the inner door card has to come off the get the mirror off then you are presented with a wiring loom to the SAM unit in the door , the conductors (wires) are very thin and wrapped. It's a right fiddle , but not massively so , depends on how handy you are.

Bit like this.

I fitted a new Ebay switch.....result....working perfectly now....
I have exactly the same problem. Would you mind sharing the link to the switch you replaced, and how you did it?
