What is the best free one that I can browse online, easily? Would like a few random clips and diagrams without having to go to the dealer for the part numbers.

Other than a pirated one which is questionable your only real option is to join the Mercedes-Benz Club which will give you access to the EPC. There is the membership to pay but it is a lot less that your own subscription to the EPC.

There's an initiation process and it involves the MC Hammer dance

When you have done MC Hammer dance, join just like any other car club.

I would hold up on joining the official Mercedes-Benz Club if you are "just" joining for EPC/ WIS access as this ceases as of 14th Dec 2018 with a changeover to the new Web page based EPC system Mercedes have introduced. Club access to the new system will happen in the New Year - date yet to be determined!!

I use this too from time to time for the odd part number.

search for auto parts, spare parts aggregator, buy spare parts and aftermarket parts for a car

I used 7ZAP for non Mercedes. I'd use it for Mercedes except I have access to EPC and when you use EPC you can put your VIN in and it tells you the parts for *your* vehicle. But EPC has just been replaced by 'Parts Information' and its not as good for detailed research but probably better for general lookups

i joined it and still could not get access.......because I use a Macbook and it's not compatible with their operating system.

Then a standalone virtual machine with EPC/WIS is the answer - I run mine with Mac skin, so it looks familiar too
