Hi guys,

Hope everyone is keeping well. Just looking to see if anyone has any suggestions or potential advice about my issue.

(C200d, auto, 30k miles)

Over the last month with the cold weather (I'm assuming), my car has had a loss of power (won't go by 3000 revs). Switching off and on seems to sort it out, however the other day the engine management light illuminated and has remained on. I (stupidly) let the fuel run down, and was heading out and was going to fill it when this happened - again, power/kick down wasn't there when I started the car and began driving, and it was fine after switching off and on - but when I restarted the car the eml was on.

The car is booked in for a b1 service at main dealer and have added the diagnostic to it (first time merc owner, and have fell into the main dealership trap I know 😳), but I was just wondering if anybody knows if anything I've mentioned above may have triggered it?

Thanks in advance, and apologies again if I am asking questions previously asked, still fairly new to all the mod cons, particularly checking through the past forum posts.

Sorry, I should have said w205 2017.

If the same fault is flagged 5 or 6 times the eml comes on.

A scan will show what's what . Buy yourself an icarsoft mb2 v2 scanner £126 . Will save you some cash in the long run . £168 per scan at mb.

Thanks for the help, I know its quite steep. Hoping its not anything too serious, but the eml being triggered by the same fault.is really handy to know!

Or take your car to an Mb Independent for the repair before the B1 service ?

I did consider it and phoned round a few, saving about £90. A little skeptical as I've not owned an mb before and want to make sure everything is done properly - suppose if I knew a reputable indy garage that would be helpful.

£168 plus parts and labour . Ouch !!

Sorry to re-post to my most likely vague already thread, but thats every other morning now it's starting with no power when accelerating, and feels as though it's stalling when I stop to switch off. Don't get me wrong, switching off resets the engine, and runs fine after that, but it's becoming annoying now. Booked in for the 2nd, but just checking if there is any knowledge out there on the lack of power?
Also, does anybody know what I can expect for my diagnostic check (I.e. if a code needs cleared will they carry that out or want more on top of it, I obviouslyknow if it's need an amount of work done it will cost).

Thanks very much again in advance to anyone who picks this up and can offer any insight atall.

Hi , sounds like your car is putting itself in limp mode. This can be triggered by very trivial 'faults' in the car ....or very serious ones. Codes need to be read. A cheap OBD scanner will tell you a bit (but not much) as mentioned an iCarsoft scanner is worth it's weight in gold, you can read the codes , cancel them and see if they pop up again. Pays for itself the first time you plug it in.

As I understand it from past comments on this forum many MB main dealers will charge a lot just to read the codes then do little about what they have seen until you hand over more cash. You do not mention how old your car is.

Thanks for the reply. It's a 2017 w205, so all things considered not that old. 30k miles. I have heard it can be trivial, it's just becoming frustrating more than anything now I suppose.

What will happen is this , when you arrive you'll receive free coffee and a small tube of ky jelly . You drink the coffee . They will take your car around the back , a place you will arrive at later with your debit card, after using the ky jelly . They will scan the car , find what's at fault , fix it hopefully, reset all fault codes ,take it for a test drive which will be all hunky dory , then a petite blonde with peroxide rinced smile ,will send you on your way. 5 miles from home your car will go back into limp mode and dinner will be ruined.

Never had a day ruined with ky yet, roll on the 2nd 🤣

Check all of the hoses/pipes/electrical connectors associated with the turbocharger and intercooler. Loose or damaged pipework in these areas will produce the symptoms you describe.
