Hi all.
My e320cdi was running really roughly recently after my mrs filled up with Shell V power diesel. It then went in to limp mode. I stopped and restarted and the car was fine for about a mile and then went into limp mode again, this happened continuously. I lifted the bonnet and removed the plastic engine cover and with the engine idling I could hear a scratching sound from the right side of the turbo. This turns out to be the egr valve which seemed to be actuating. After some effort I removed the valve which was sooted up as was the bore it sits in but nothing more than I would have expected. I cleaned it and replaced it with the plastic end cover removed. Now the car starts and runs for a few seconds then the egr valve actuates up and down continuously. Every time the valve opens the engine can be heard responding so its basically hunting. The turbo actuator was repaired a year or so ago so I'm hoping its not related, the actuator also moves when the engine starts, revs and turns off. The back end of the egr valve has a plastic cap with the electrical connections inside. There is also what looks like a magnetic ring on the shaft which has cracked into pieces. So questions are:
Also due to people getting back to normal working etc no garage can book the car in for 6 weeks (looks like good times for garages!)
Any help much appreciated

- Is this EGR valve continuous on/off cycle a sign of something?
- Is the EGR valve at fault or is it being commanded to operate due to something else on the car?
- Has anyone else had a fault caused by using V power diesel or is that coincidence?
