Hi guys,

Can anyone help me with the below, I have these two stated on the options list but I’m still not exempt from the ultra low emissions charge... I thought my car is euro 6 or am I missing something out :-(

COC document EU6 without registration certificate part II

EU6 emissions standard

There is an issue with how the ULEZ measure EU6 it’s something to do with how the numbers are written down.

There was a letter on one of the forums and apparently this was being sorted and I’m surprised it has not been rectified yet.

I’m sure someone will be along who knows the full details.

I have just entered my car out of interest as previously it said I was not exempt, my car now comes up as exempt ULEZ, I have not entered into any correspondence with TFL.

Looks as if the site has been updated so surprised yourcar if EU6 is not exempt.

Same for mine.
The problem was/is the difference in units shown on the certificate (mg/km) and those used in the DVLA database (g/km). There are some threads on here that discuss this in more detail.

I know this is for a C250d, but the principle issue is the same:
Euro6 C250d V5C PM Value (TFL ULEZ)

After more than 40-years of using the metric system, we in the U.K. still generally have no clue about how metric units work. We buy fuel in litres and then talk about miles per gallon. We buy beer in pints, but wines and spirits in millilitres, unless the beer is in cans or bottles then that is also in millilitres. Sausages by the pound, but labelled in grams. We still describe someone as being 6ft tall or being 12 stone. Etc.

What are the minimum requirements for an exemption, I’m starting to think I may be the one doing or understanding something wrong, my car is a 2015 cls350 with a co2 of 140.

These are stated on my V5c

Co: 0.401
nox: 0.047
Hc: 0.086
Particulate: 0.670

Does this mean I’m exempt from ULEZ? or will I be paying for this silly charge :-(

The number for particulates shown on your V5c is out by a factor of 100. No way does your car chuck out more than half a gram of particulate per km.

6.7mg/km or 0.0067g/km is more like the real number.

Do you have the yellow EU compliance certificate in your paperwork? That should show the right number for your car.

I remember seeing a thread a while ago, where someone had to email MB and then TFL to get this sorted.

I don’t have any other paper works for the emissions.

Is it just the particulate that is not making sense or does the other numbers also look wrong....

Does it not have any units?

It’s say (g/km or g/kWh) next to it.

It will be in g/km on the V5c which corresponds with the units defined in the Euro6 standards as posted by @clk320x

The value shown on the yellow EU compliance certificate is shown in mg/km, (which is actually a more convenient unit to use). In your case the number would have been 6.70mg/km which is 0.0067g/km.

Whoever or whatever system entered the number into the data base, has seen that as 670mg/km which equates to 0.670g/km.

Thanks to this thread, I've just been through this process as my car, first registered in March 2015, came up as not being Euro 6 on the TfL website. I made a request on this page:
Make an enquiry
and said this:

The vehicle checker indicates that my car does not meet the ULEZ standard (not Euro 6 compliant) and so is not exempt from paying the ULEZ charge. I would be grateful if you would review that status. I have attached the following documentation as evidence:
A copy of the Certificate of Conformity
A copy of the V5C

The response took just 4 working days and said:

Thank you for your enquiry received on 12 October 2018 regarding Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). Based on the information that you have provided we can confirm that your vehicle, registration *******, meets the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) emissions standards. This means you will not need to pay an ULEZ charge to travel in the zone, from 8 April 2019. The vehicle compliance database will be updated to reflect the correct details of your vehicle, before the scheme commences

Hope others find this useful.
