So you’re taking your V8 AMG through several EU countries over a week or two. You’re staying in a range of hotels as the tour progresses. Some dates parking car and going on a hike or boat trip etc

So any security tips? Other than faraday pouch. What about steering wheel locks etc. welcome folks experiences

Park it in the most secure location possible. Put the drivers seat in the highest, most forward position possible, with the backrest angle as far forward as possible. Then get on with enjoying whatever you’re doing 👍🏻

Autowatch Ghost 2 would be a recommendation not because you're going to the EU yet just in general terms, even if they get into it that can't take it.

Then as above park in well lit, open spaces and where you can communal areas. Save position 3 in an awkward setting so they cannot just hop in.

And don't over think it. Enjoy the trip and forget about the car as life is to short to worry about something you have no control over.

I’d go for a steering wheel lock as well, more for a visual deterrent than anything else. Also Door Defenders so you don’t worry (so much) about car park dings. I use them all the time.

Never had any issues anywhere in Europe when I had my 63 or any car since.Maybe a false impression but I feel its less likely in Europe than here although a friend did have his XK150 broken into last year near Annecy.

My personal experience tells me that the French national pastime is thieving and it must be taught in schools!....maybe my friends and I have just been unlucky. Statistically there are several countries in Europe worse than the UK when it comes to your car vanishing..Italy being the worst....but unsurprisingly (to me at least) France is right up there......see chart.

Based on work experience on insuring both domestic cars and foreign cars across Europe, steering wheel locks are simplest (and best when big and bright and visible - not ye olde krook locks to the pedals) deterrent overnight if you are concerned given you know where you are going

Most of our cars are not worthy of theft, but the parts trade for modest cars is alive.

We believe these work as twice in the last two years (that I know if) we had similar neighbouring cars stolen, but my colleagues one weren't.
His could have been the wrong colour, ages, spec etc, but to me it's enough evidence to recommend or insist. Losing your company car really buggers up a business trip, so my people seem to listen

Never, ever, never leave anything in the seats even during the day and esp overnight, bags, coats or shop purchases etc though.
Even for a coffee break.
Motorway services in France can be targeted.
Stuff should always be in the boot or better still, with you. Park the car visible if it's not a domestic one.

We still have a fair few broken windows and stolen items, despite audible alarms depending on where and when

But in the scale of things and the volume of trips involved, it is still a rare occurrence. Just really really inconvenient

Don't leave your passports in the car.

Also alot of the "eco" warrier Just stop oil types have a habit of letting peoples tyres down in big cities (150 cars targeted in Toulouse last Saturday night) so may be worth carrying a small electric air pump in the boot. They are not slashing tyres just letting the air out the valves.

Moderate this by saying that area is important within country. New Range Rover within the M25? Gone within three months. Outside of the conurbations: not much of an issue.

Amen: I'm forever telling people they made a foolish mistake by leaving clothes or bags in sight in a car (in the UK).
For someone with £20 or €20 in their pocket, it's an enormous temptation just to break a window "to see what's in there."

Somehow people in the 20's and even 30's, didn't do that bit of the Highway Code.

Take comfort from the knowledge that your arcane RHD motor is less easy to fence in the EU than an Audi S3 with the steering wheel on the right (ie. left) side. They'll be more interested in contents than total removal

IF you want to minimise your risk of crime, particularly in France, I would stay away form areas with a high concentration of illegal immigrants which probably means parts of all big cities.. I don't apologise for saying that if the French governments statistics are correct. There must be no go areas in the UK too. It's just common sense to keep clear of them.

Mr. Macron cited a statistic: "If we look at crime in Paris today, we cannot fail to see that at least half of the crime comes from people who are foreigners, either illegal immigrants or waiting for a residence permit.

"Suspects of foreign nationality are overrepresented in all indicators of crime and their share is increasing,"

'At least half of Paris crime is committed by foreigners': Where does Macron's claim come from?

Auto watch ghost immobiliser or other brand like pandora... can't be started without a code. Happy travels !

Agree withe the 'leave nothing in sight' advice . SWMBO used to leave great handfuls of shiny coins in the car for all to see for parking (that was a while back when you could use actual real money to park and not a phone app)

Her response was "it's only a few quid" . My response was... "So is a 3 litre bottle of white lightning cider" .

Getting your window smashed because you left a low value item on view is a pain in the butt.

Happened to me (company car) in a suburb of Birmingham , 'they' took a low value coat but left an expensive pair of motocross boots , too heavy and not much use to them I suppose.

I'm off with the family to Italy next week, due to flight prices, hire car costs & the fact i love driving my E63 we always drive & we have never had an issue.
We always remove anything from sight, cover the luggage, stay in hotels with secure parking en route & tend to stay in rural villas once at our destination.
This year we're heading south of Siena via Germany & Switzerland - can't wait..!!
