EVO DR520 Review

surprised to read that the cars are wrapped in vinyl ..

wonder if they will let you have a car without the wrap

also, how much more is the DR520 than the C63?
 
Negative ghostrider, for what it is, it is cheaper than the sum of it's parts in terms of buying the C63 and getting all the options. But the dealer contribution and subsidised finance make the standard car too good a deal. It just grates me that they release blurb saying it is circa 63K when it is actually 70k.

Given the modifications I had or am having done on mine, I've done a lot of comparisons on the costs of the DR520 vs. what I am spending to make, what is in my opinion, a slightly better DR520 (but then I do appreciate that I am biased ;)):

  • Brabus B63 kit - £5k separately
  • Interior re-trim - see my comments below but the leather is £2250 from the factory
  • Old (firmer) PP suspension - £1.5k separately
  • Matt wrap - £??
The interior option on the DR520 is actually inferior to the leather dash (top) option you can get from the factory and (yes I do have a bee in my bonnet about this!) the leather used in the DR520 is very disappointing compared to a standard C63 (they haven't used Nappa :wallbash:). I just don't get it....they are charging a LOT more for the car and made the interior cheaper in feel than what you can get from the factory with the £2,250 leather dash option. Unless of course you really want alcantara.

Cost wise, this is how my modifications stack up against a DR520:

  • Price of car with c.6% discount - £63k inc. leather dash top and most other options
  • Brabus kit is - £5k
  • KW Coilover Suspension - £2k (for me, it was either the KW's or the firmer suspension from the old PP and even the guys at AMG said I'd be mad to go for AMG suspension when theres so little price differential)
  • Full leather dash upgrade - £3k

So, all in all it's costing me in the region of £73k with the full leather dash - slightly more than a fully spec'd DR520 but also with better components. Admittedly, I don't have the matt wrap or the kudos of a special edition so am likely to lose a load more money than if I had just bought a DR520.

The DR520 is of course an awesome machine (it is after all a more powerful C63:D) but it's the Brabus and suspension upgrades that make it so....and I for one cannot wait to see what these two changes do to my car (although I am very nervous about the Coilovers as this is unknown territory to me!). In my very humble opinion, I seriously believe that they have cheapened the DR520 with the interior and matt wrap but of course they had to do 'something' to visually differentiate it from a normal C63!

Verdict was mental, but the suspension is too hard for UK roads (interesting as it is standard C63) and it is just too expensive when compared to the standard C63 at £9995 more expensive at 64K, err....try 72K!!

I wonder if Jason has sold all of them or if they are genuinely doing deals on these.

Either way I am not having one...

Lol I forgot I did that post!

You can take the brabus kit cost off mine and end up with a similar power car for with all the other enhancements for a fair bit less.

I can't see Brooklands doing deals on them...if they had to do deals to shift 20 cars then that's a big fail and would wipe out the residual high ground that the DR520 should command.

Hi the 520 has the suspension from the p/pack c63
 
I saw a DR 520 in the metal or should that be vinyl today in Chigwell and very nice it looks too.

I do worry about the residuals of the C63, as I see at least 4 a day in my area.
