The respray, along with attached car has successfully survived a 700 mile jaunt revisiting old memories of the NW Highlands.

Brilliant scenery, excellent weather, great car... :D

Took a couple of attempts to get these two to stay still long enough... :wallbash:

Some real amateurs on these single-track roads - can't reverse to save themselves.

And I've stayed in the cottage on the right of your first photograph.

A truly wonderful part of the world, where I spent many spring holidays in the 1970s and 1980s, my last visit being in 1997. I haven't taken my 1996 E320 Coupé up there yet, but I'm determined to get back there sometime.

Don't tell too many people about it.

In case you didn't know, there is a switch on the dashboard that allows you to lower the rear headrests and it will give you better all round vision.

Paint looks good.

Absolutely love the area -- one of the best in the world (IMHO).

My wife and a colleague go there every year to write their archaeological / geological walk books. In fact he was in the "who do you think you are" last week with David Mitchel in Sutherland - explaining the clearances in the area. I join them every year and must say I am always sad to leave.

It amazed me when working in Stirling how many locals have never ventured that far north.

If anyone is going to Tongue, Betty Hill, Durness areas and need a good (IMHO) guide book drop me a PM and I will see if I can arrange one for you. Or you can buy them up locally there - "what to see around...(insert one of the above areas)"

Small A5 booklets (no photos...)

Lovely photos.

Cheers,

Gaz

Sadly yes. I'm always amazed how many people growing up today end up travelling abroad for breaks rather than getting to know their own country.

Couldn't agree more!

Having in the past travelled to the North coast via the Lochs Hope and Loyal roads from Altnaharra, we explored the Strathnaver route to Bettyhill.

There are a series of interpretive roadside boards detailing the notorious Clearances which took place around 170 years ago.

This shameful event in history still remains unknown to many and, unsurprisingly, I found no reference to it during our visit to Dunrobin - the contents and mementos of which are toe-curlingly awful.

Spent a week in Brora last month and walked the dog from Dunrobin into Golspie along the beach. Wasn't allowed access to the house cos of the mutt. And then a week at Dunnet Bay. Drove to Tongue then thought we'd eat at the Altnaharra Hotel so 'did' the Loyal road. Hotel shut!! bugger!!. Returned the Strathnaver route to Bettyhill and read the Clearance notices like yourself. Pretty poignant stuff. Nice we museum in Bettyhill.

Yes often blamed on the English - whereas the Clan chiefs were mainly to blame - greed for sheep farming over the needs of the locals. But the locals still like to blame the English.. :D

Nice pictures, I've always meant to post some of mine from Sutherland last year and never got round to it, so here goes. Russ

Superb pics from all. Went to Scotland a few years back - flew to Inverness and then drove to West coast and did clockwise circular tour all the way back round to Inverness again - fantastic views and people too.
