Factory Armoured S600 anyone?

That's very cool!! Wonder how much heavier it is than the original car? Fuel economy must be interesting haha

Around double original weight. The current S-Guard is quoted at 4100kg kerbweight, the 220 will have less advanced (i.e. heavier) materials.

Imagine that rear ending a white Corsa, it'd look like a game of snooker, someone potting black in reverse.:D

I wonder what brakes are on that :D

Wonder if it would survive my local Tesco car park unscathed!

I wonder whom the previous owner might be??
""Guard model Mercedes are the auto-manufacturer's factory armoured vehicles that are designed and built to the highest levels of European protection standards. The B7 level protection on this Mercedes S600 provides resistance against grenades, explosive charges and very high-velocity projectiles up to and including AK47 rounds.""
Who would need all this stuff???

A fiend of mine used to supply armoured vehicles on behalf of BMW. I went with him once to deliver a 5 series to one of the UK's richest families........for the nanny. I presume to protect the kiddies going to nursery. I imagine there are a lot more of these cars on the road than we realise. His demonstrator was a fully armoured 7 series which had a lot of cool features. I particularly liked the external speaker so you could express your opinion without waving your arms about.

Kevlar and Ceramics reduces the weight considerable.

I remember the E39 540iA Protection saloons.

Very impressive.

I like the idea although I have no use for one.

If money is truly no object, then why not? If money really really is no object, then personal safety (security) is probably high on your list of priorities.

Because unless you know you’re at serious risk armed attack, the cons massively outweigh the pros.

What would you say were the cons to running one of these apart from the obvious shocking economy of course?

I was thinking the same. They're expensive to buy, and they're heavier so they don't handle so well in tight turns, and fuel consumption is worse in town, but they're much better in hostile situations. Is it a bigger compromise than driving an SUV? I'm not so sure myself.

The owner of a scaffolding company in a bullet proof S-Class has an over inflated sense of self importance.

The cons are that it's OTT for your requirements. You're acting like if you can afford it, it's a no brainer?!

Oh he has. He’s also upset a hell of a lot of people over the years.

I'm not sure I see that as a con actually.

I would say if you can afford it and you perceive it to be the case that you need a car like that, and you can afford it, why not...

I was more thinking about second hand but as per Darrell's example, makes sense.

Rather that than be a victim of a drive-by which do happen over here.
