Fan belt

Hi we have a 2000 sprinter 313 camper.we are away at the moment.i just started the van a big belt has come off.can I drive the van to try and get to a garage? thanks in advance

Not too far. It will be driving the coolant pump and the power steering pump.

If it is the 6 rib auxillary drive V belt then the answer to your question is no. Your engine will very quickly overheat as the water pump will not be operational.

Correction it will NOT be driving either , but we knew what you meant . The alternator is also not being driven . But as alecmascot says you can drive it if you are strong enough to steer it , but don't go far and keep an eye on the temperature gauge.

If you are going to start the engine make sure the belt is 100% off , you do not want it catching in the crank pulley.

I wouldn't drive it more than 2-3 minutes from warm and 5-6 minutes cold.
