I’ve made myself a Faraday box to reduce the risk of my ‘keyless entry‘ keys being scanned. Started with a wooden box 10” x 5” x 4” Lined with 2mm thick lead, ensuring that the lead extended up beyond the lip when closed….didn’t work. So I then lined the lead with tin foil folded 3x times. This worked… for about a week….now it doesn’t. Anyone any ideas why? I’ve heard that Faraday pouches also suffer from the same issue….works for a while then fails…why is this, and what is the solution ?

Seems like a lot of work / effort / money to save yourself £3.

Our Defender pouches have been defending our fobs for years without issue.

Thats funny my faraday pouch has stopped working, seems strange. I see the Defender ones get rated quite well, but does anyone have a better looking thing, they just all look crap.

Must be a bugger carrying it around....... ;) They can scan your key while it is in your pocket.

AFAIK lead is not an ideal (RF) shield. Copper would be better and if you connect it to ground as well......it will be even better;):)

Hi , my 2015 Mercedes allows me to turn off the key fob.( Need to turn off all keys you have for the car)
Explain this please , the process of turning off the key. Tnx.

This is the one I use, had it for some time now and seems to do the trick :) For double protection you can also double click the 'Lock' button too ☺️

I use an old metal Roses tin :)
I use an old stainless steel container that held tea bags (don't think the make of tea bags matter). Take it out to car & the door does not unlock;)

Hi , I press the lock button twice in quick sussession and the indicator flashes four times.

Key is turned off , need to do the same to all other keys for your car.

To open use key as normal.
I couldn't be ****d on. But tnx .

Everyone must have spotted those round tins of travel sweets in garages etc?

They make excellent Faraday containers….

Tried my wife’s Hyundai keys in…tins, plant pots, cups, glasses. even tin foil lined lead doesn’t work. Only need it at night time cos that’s when the scroats scan your walls.
Current Merc isn’t keyless, so not an issue for me….yet.

How long have you had it ? Most seems to work for a few weeks then fail.

Had these almost 18 months and still work perfectly. Can't see how they cease to work frankly

Failure mode is usually the metal foil membrane splitting through flexing.
