Front Grille Wrap

Guys, I'd like to have my grill wrapped, just the two bars either side of the silver star, and leave the silver star as it is. Has anyone had theirs done without having it removed from the car? I'm not too happy at the thought of having the front bumper taken down and the grille removed for such a small job. A place I took it to said it would be too difficult to do. I would do it myself but I've tried wrapping before and I'm hopeless at it so would need a pro do it. It's for the 63s 205 below.

Mine has been wrapped the same as what you are wanting. Didn’t need anything removing.

I’m travelling at the moment, but I’ll try to get some pics loaded in the next day or two.

Thanks, I did suspect I was being fobbed off, I think the guy just didn't want to do the job.

I'm not saying it's an easy job, because it certainly doesn't look easy. I'm just saying that it can be done without removing the front end (only centre star and AMG badge).

Thanks for posting the pics. Looks real good! Are there any visible joins where they had to cut and position the vinyl?

On a very closer inspection there is a joint, but unless you had your white gloves on you wouldn't notice it.
A small joint between the blades around the centre star (both sides).

Thanks for the pic, much appreciated. I've since tried another place and was told yes it can be done if I was happy to accept joins in the vinyl , I said yes as long as they weren't too visible, but again I got the impression that the weren't too keen to take the job on. I haven't given up quite yet, hopefully next time will be third time lucky :)

You will only see the cuts in your paint when you eventually pull the vinyl off. ;)

Small jobs like that usually go to the new guys who are not very experienced with those sharp blades they use to trim the vinyl.

I'm getting mine all done next week (same place that did my old RS6) and they are looking at removing and plasti-dipping the parts. Also blacking out the badging also (that may be a purchase of already blacked out badges).

I have a stock single-bar grille on the CLS - brushed silver effect on the central bar moulding, chrome on the strips above and below it, brushed effect on the central boss that the star mounts on - and I'm wondering whether it would be feasible to black out the two chrome strips and the central boss, leaving just the star and the two brushed silver parts of the bar as standard. Anyone know anywhere decent near me (Beaconsfield/High Wycombe) that could do the job?

I love the idea of wrapping parts and even having them dipped but if they do have to remove the grille to do it then what’s the difference in cost having either of these done compared to having a 3rd party replacement instead?

I am in no way questioning anyones choice I’m just curious on costings as I was quoted over 400 quid to have the silver window trims wrapped on my c class.

Funnily enough I just posted a new thread on this! Mine has the adaptive cruise module which has caused issues so it's been left. Very keen to get the whole thing done but without causing grief such as having to get the entire module recalibrated etc.
