Make it very easy to launch and recover boats ;)

True, but that hard projection has to be illegal on a road going car.

It's detachable , the ballhitch connects within the confines of the front chassis member.

Fitted by a reputable towbar company. :)

I've seen them on road - going back a few years though.
Our local caravan centre had a vehicle with one on - was a landrover defender with a steel bumper

Front towbars are very cool. The car is looking good too - Nibal rock

I remember seeing a rough and ready G-Wagen on a low loader with a static caravan, and that evening watched it inch the same caravan through a maze of a caravan park into it's final destination. Very impressive.

It is just the shame of unhitching and rehitching at the boat ramp though isn't it...

Good idea though.

I don't see how it can be an EC type-approved fitting, so on that basis it would be illegal I'm afraid (no matter how well it's done). Unlikely to get caught for it, of course.

If the swan neck is detachable it won't matter as long as it's not left in place when on the road.

What do you mean ?

We pull the trailer out of the yard on the front of the car , reverse the car up the road with the boat attached to the front , then push the trailer down the slipway still on the front of the car , no unhitching needed ;) the ML is a workhorse , we own a boatyard , we don't tow boats around the country.

The bar is indeed detachable , much the same as the swan neck on the back of the car is.

Peeeeeerfect for a boat yard. :)
Got one on the back as well?

Yep , stops people parking too close ;)

Learn to reverse the trailer :D

He can reverse the trailer , but its a public slipway with a bridge approach on it , there are walkers and cyclists everywhere. Much easier and safer to do it with the front hitch. You can see what you are doing and the maneovure is completed much quicker.

My dad has been pulling boats around forever , he's got nothing to prove , but he likes an easy life.

Don't need a winch for anything other than the winch on the front of the trailer to pull the boat the last few inches onto the block.
