Hi guys looking to get an alarm set up in my garage, has anyone got one that they would recommend? Thanks martin

What sort of garage…….some can get very hot. These must have a gel tech pir which was designed to cope with lots of heat in conservatories and garages.

And it really depends on what you want the alarm to do (other than the obvious).

Many things to consider.

Has the garage got mains electricity?

How many points of entry - doors, windows?

Draughty? Damp? Hot? All these can cause false alarms if detectors not carefully chosen.

The audible alarm ("bell box") will inevitably be low down, so it is easy for an intruder to attack it. Again, the spec of the bell box needs careful consideration.

What kind of risk level? Is it just a few diy tools and family car to secure, or something far higher value - which could attract more expert thieves and need higher level of equipment.

If the garage is close to or integrated with your house, it might be an option to put control equipment & sirens in house, not in garage. Radio links are available if not possible to hard wire.

Is there a requirement of alarm by insurance company? If so you may need professional NACOSS recognised installer.

Is CCTV an option?

Hi mate single garage does get very hot in the summer, just after a really loud alarm that will wake me up if I get an unwanted visitor really, just incase get a little paranoid at times as we all do I guess, cheers

Hi,
If you have a house alarm is it extendable since that would be the cheapest option.
Is the garage located close by the house or attached, if not the lighting and a secure lock might be better.

We recently installed a Rhino post in our drive this is a physical barrier and loads more effective than an alarm and frankly less likely to go off falsely at 2 in the morning......:D

Thanks for all your suggestions guys definately food for thought! And a lot if factors I didn't consider going to have a word with my sparky mate to see if he can wire the existing house one up.
Cheers

I fitted a proper house alarm with sensors in every corner, door contacts, fire alarms etc.

It wasnt expensive, certainly under £1000 fitted and around £20 a month monitoring charge.
