Just purchased a 2012 E350 CDI BlueEfficiency coupe with the 7G+. 66000 miles. Gear box service just carried out prior to collecting. I’m finding the gear changes have a small jolt with each change when moving up through the gears. Is this to do with the mode (E or S for example? Or it symptomatic of something else? I gather the changes should be seamless….Worried.

The same box in my 204 was pretty seamless, apart from when everything was cold in which case downshifts into the lower 2 ratios were a bit rough. But once fully warmed up, both up and down changes were smooth, whatever mode was selected.

Ah. Right. I'll look at that tomorrow. Thanks.👍

What transmission oil was used ?

And is there prior history of transmission oil changes every 5 years ?

I'm afraid I don't know. It was the same before the gb service.

Check gearbox and engine mounts, changed them on our e280 and no gearbox vibrations or clunky gear changes.

This is worth a watch re transmission and engine mounts.

As mentioned above, if it's from cold, and it's not the middle of summer that's normal, very notchy, jerky, feels really bad, but once warmed up, it's fine.
I have just started to notice this again as the weather has got cooler...

It did it at 15k when I bought it, it still does it at 150k today, several gearbox oil changes later..same engine and box but in a C class.

I had the gearbox mount done at 136k as they found slight movement, at 146k they said the same thing and hadn't remembered they already did it !

Many auto boxes over the years I have owned have had these issues some different cars more than others. I found the BMW's to behave worse especially the e60 545i auto I had. The x5 4.6,is wasn't much better.

With the E63 I currently own I find the MCT very good in all gear box settings. It did have a slight hesitation when moving off from a static position in c mode s modes are definitely more responsive maybe to responsive for in town driving. What has helped and basically taken away any hesitation was the installation of a sprint booster. Which can be attached to the acellrater pedal. It has 10 different settings of speed and sport and race functions. I was optimistic when I looked into having one. But as I say it's been brilliant and altered the shifting program of the car. Some settings are just to intrusive, but I have found a perfect set up, to eliminate any hesitation and rough shifts I previously encountered.

I have to say the ZF8 in my current Beemer is silky smooth 😎
