Can some tell me if the 5 speed gearbox in the early CLK 500’s is the same as one in an early 320 CLK?
Ta.

CLK320 has a weaker tranny than CLK500
The V8 is more turkey with more NM than the simple V6 which has a weaker tranny, wouldn't recommend buying a weaker tranny for the CLK500

I’m not. Mine is fine. Me and my son were talking the other day and he asked me if they were the same. We both now have 500’s but he used to have a 5 speed 320 and wondered if they had different gearboxes. I know the torque converters are identical.

The CLK320 and CLK 500 have different transmission codes in the EPC.
So yes, they are different.

As far as I know all the five speed ones are the same architecture inside, but some will have beefed up components to cope with the extra torque or slightly different gearing. For this reason gearboxes in AMG or large capacity V8 cars actually seem to outlive the gearboxes in humble small capacity four cylinder ones (anecdotal evidence).

If we are talking 722.6 transmissions the basic build on all of them is the 'same' , but the 722.6 fitted in a bus is quite different to the 'speedshift' one in my 2006 C55 AMG , as is the one in a Chrysler crossfire or Jeep Cherokee, Dodge charger etc. How is the 722.6 fitted in the MB McLaren configured ? No idea but its in there as it is in the V12.

The answer to your question ? is , yes...and no.
