Hi Guys

I have just bought a new Sony KD-55X9005C smart TV. I am struggling to get an app that I have been recommended called KODI onto the television and wondered if anyone can help.

Looking at YouTube it seems that you need another android device (phone or tablet) which I don't have but surely you must be able to do this with the TV?

Do you have a Google account?

Go to Home-Settings-Personal-Add account

Once set-up you should have access to Google Play from where you can add Apps

You have a Google account and it's registered on the tv? Can you get any apps to load or are you only having probs with KODI?

From what I've read about that app it's really not worth the pain..

Most of what it does can be done from the Sony embedded apps anyway

Thanks...the TV guy in Currys reckoned that you can get Sky Sports free using KODI.

I already pay for Sky Sports but thought I would see if it's true or not. Also heard that there is loads of films etc. on there free of charge.

Andy thanks for that link it is very helpful even though most of it goes way above my head!

Be very careful installing any plug-ins to Kodi that promise Free Films, TV, Satellite Channels etc..

Ask me how I know....

Only took 4 days continuous IT-ing to get rid iof the viruses.

Sony will NOT allow you to install any 3rd party apps other than those that are provided within the Sony app gateway.....e:g.....I have a 75" Sony Bravia....with Sony's built in browser....I can use BBC iPlayer, STV OD, YT, CH5 etc etc...I can't use any CH4 OD services...because CH4 haven't agreed upon a financial arrangement to do so, I can access a plethora of other OD apps (mostly manure).

You can of course use a smartphone with AllCast / Screen mirroring....but that won't give you Kodi...unless you use an OTG cable connected to an HDD for downloading.....but I'm pretty sure the s/w or codecs associated with Kodi make it almost impossible, there will be some kind of workaround.....too much trouble for me tho'....I use a private / members only torrent site for my d/l....!

You need an Android TV.....not a regular 'smart' TV !!!

you can get an Android TV box on ebay for about £40, so not much of a risk.. And it will be almost future-proof, unlike the Smart TV..

The Sony KD-55X9005C is an Android tv and comes with Google Play store app, so anything (compatible) on Google Play can be down loaded and installed.

KODI is available via the Play store

Can you not just cast to the TV from the phone via all its apps? My Nexus 5 automatically detects my Samsung telly and the cast icon appears.
