Hi all
Just had my first dealer service on 2016 GLC, a bit taken aback at the price! £528.00 (they knocked £28 of it) so £500, it felt a bit severe, Im just wondering if this is about right ?

Expensive. Out of interest , how much are your local MB stealer offering a service pack for? It will be cheaper

“A” service will be under £300, so I guess there was time /mileage related additional items.

I don't think there was , theres only 22000 miles on the clock
One thing that miffed me! I had let the ad blu run down assuming they would top it up! they didn't

So the A Service was just over £210
Fuel Filter was £115 extra
Air Filter was £67 extra
Dust filter and sunroof lube was £25 extra

just as I said

Reasonable.

All that can be done for much cheaper, however, not everyone is a grease monkey (by trade or DIY).

What kind of cars have you had in the past that make you think that's a basic service!?

Standard A or B service on a Merc is little more than an oil and filter change, plus some checks. Everything else is additional work that comes up on a time / distance basis.

Another example where a service plan is worth it as all those “extra” items on the invoice are included for a lower fixed price...(£432 from memory)

After reading this I’m glad I took out a 4 year service plan on my GLC for £31 a month. Thought it was a good deal at the time and this confirms it

My last car was an E class 350d coupe for 3 years that I traded in against the GLC , it had a bigger engine and service was never as expensive as this

I think what's changed is the filters (air and fuel) are now every 3yrs when they used to be 4.

Your type of complaint used to be common with people who bought 3yrs old cars so were hit with the bill you got at 4yrs. Goodness knows why MB have changed it - seems quite odd as normally manufacturers do all they can to reduce running costs for the first 3yrs so as to make fleet whole life costs look lower.

One odd thing about your GLC service is why it had the pollen filter changed - unless they've changed the interval of that too, it's normally every 2yrs.

Next year you've got the brake fluid change to look forward too - I'm sure the dealer will want £100+ for that. Year after it'll be the ATF change.

As others said - unfortunately, paying for dealer services one at a time is probably the most expensive way of maintaining your car... it would have worked-out cheaper on an MB Service Care Plan.

Your next service will be a Service B plus Brake Fluid change in 2020, and the one after that will most likely be a Service A and ATF change in 2021 (assuming the car is equipped with automatic transmission on a 5y maintenance schedule). If so, then getting an MB Service Care Plan to cover the next two services is still your best bet.

Alternatively, it will be even cheaper at a specialist (though you won't get the Mobilo European roadside assistance and arguably also the anti-peroration warranty).

I've read to many stories on here of cars needing X,Y & Z done when in for a service, and when reminded it's on a service contract, it suddenly no longer needs it done at all.

I posted this on another thread earlier this year. "Been doing some work on this for our new GLC due at the end of July. We plan on only having two services in our ownership period :

Service A £355.18
Service B £492.58
Total cost for above £847.76
Service Plan (2 services) 24 mths @ £32.00 = £768.00
Saving £79.76
Dealer : Service intervals are every 12 months from the date of registration or 15,500 miles - whichever comes first.
The services alternate between the A & B Service, the first service will be an A priced at £355.18.
The second service the B and the brake fluid change (due every 2 years), will total £492.58.
Service Plan - the vehicle will require 1 service per year, the monthly cost would be £32.00 per month including VAT. So you could cover 2 services, and make 24 payments of £32.00
I received confirmation from MB that the £32/month does include the brake fluid change - consequently the service plan looks to be the way to go.
MB service plan charges set out here : https://tools.mercedes-benz.co.uk/c.../service-care-pricing.pdf?owda=misc&owda=misc

It's s such a scam though - the reason the PAYG prices are so high, and the dealers won't budge, is to make ServiceCare look like a no-brainer.

Other manufacturers would do 2/3 yr service plans for much more reasonable prices.

And if you live in the US and buy a BMW..........................

"Beginning with MY 2017, all new BMW vehicles will come with 3-year, 36,000 mile, No Cost Scheduled Maintenance. As it is with the current program this coverage is non-transferable. Until now, every new BMW included maintenance for 4 years or 50,000 miles."
