Heated Seats

My Mercedes main dealer prices for “fixing” a heated seat element are extortionate, is there an alternative in West London that can provide the service for a reasonable price?

I have been looking at DIY but I am not confident enough to attempt upholstery fixes without some instruction.

Give the guys at Comandonline a call.

The only commandonline I can find is commandonline.co.uk - they appear to be audio/nav specialists not upholstery?? Can you please advise further?

As suggested, call them. They also retrofit accessories.

is buying a 2nd hand seat viable to you ?

Look for vehicle re-trimmers online, you should find a number near you, they will all be able to replace your heater element and put your seat back to how it was,Command will do the job but you might find that the cost is right up there with MB.

Yes, we retrofit heated seats (as per factory) and will repair. Has it all failed ? or just some of the pads ?

There are multiple elements in a W212 seat (backrest, base-centre, base front and bolsters) - each pad is (I estimate) around £115 inc VAT each (the W176 A class ones are that price, haven't checked W212 recently).

If all have failed you probably have a different problem !

Given our labour rates are very significantly less than the Mercedes dealer and we don't charge "Book Time" (i.e what Mercedes say a job will take) we should not be "right up there with MB".

Cheers

Richard Hi,
Everything worked fine until end November, now the switch lights up for a few seconds, then switches off.
I have been informed it is a failed heat element (MOT was December and the garage only had limited time to check).
The the seat stitching has separated (slightly) on the base of the driver seat so highly likely the wiring has snapped and the passenger seat still works fine so it is not a fuse/relay.
I would need restitching (black leather) and a new element according to the best info to date.
The MB quote over the phone was more of a deterrent than assistance in my opinion and I cannot justify the 6 hours @ £150 coupled with whatever parts they find needing to be replaced PLUS VAT!!
I use my car regularly for work but can drop off in a morning and pick up in the evening with advanced notice - where are you based (anywhere near Slough)?

OK, that behaviour means the heated seat controller is seeing a pad failure. I'm sort of surprised because normally with 1 pad failure it will still heat the others so something more may be amiss.

We are not far from Slough (go through Windsor ,to Ascot, and then to Lightwater). Which is good because i'd like to actually ascertain what has failed, and then order parts and then come in when we can have the car for enough time to disassemble and pop the seat cover over to D-Class for the leather repair. Which means a short trip and a day trip

Cheers

Richard
