Hi guys,

Its Terry here, nice to meet you.
I decided to jump from BMWs and 3ers (e36-e90-f30) to a Mercedes saloon.
At this stage of life and due to my long commute to work, my main focus is comfort, a relaxing-quiet journey to work and back to home and the fuel consumption as a 3rd factor.
For this reason, I just put on sale my 2014 320d and looking forward to own and drive a Mercedes.

I am between an early W205 c220d (2015) or a late W212 e220d (2015) but, although I do not need the extra space of an E-class sedan, I believe that it will have a more quieter interior. Biggest problems of the f30s are the tyre noise in the cabin and the discomfort seats in long distances.
For these reasons I tend more to a W212 (instead of a W205).
I am all ears if you have any suggestions between these two models (in what regards their quality of ride and noise cancelation within the cabin). I have read that few W205 produce air noise from A-pillars too.
I would love to own a 250d but value is increasing for these 250d models. Also, I have read that e220d use a single turbo while c220d are bi-turbo @2.1lt (om651).

Please also advise if I should check something in more detail (in terms of chassis or engine reliability, although the om651 @ 2.1lt was at its last glories in 2015 models).
Thank you in advance and I hope that I will be driving a w212 very soon.

Howdo - all 651s in 220 form would be twin-turbo I believe, it's only the 200 that is single. I think a lot of people will recommend the 350cdi though, not that different on mpg and very quiet.

If long commutes even the 320 is not that hard on fuel. And easier bought than the 350.

hi again and thank you all for the welcome messages.

due to ulez i am focusing in euro6 engines, so from what i have seen there are no w212 e250d bluetec models.
Also, e350d would be a dream to drive (my brother in law has a c207 e350 cdi and i can say that this is the proper engine for the model) but i also consider my mpg (my commute is 400miles weekly and this is the reason I want a car that can deliver upper 50s mpg)

I would look on honestjohn or ask on here about real-world mpg. It is a truism that although the smaller engine looks good on paper because it's in a big heavy car it is worked harder than the bigger engine and this can negate the mp difference.

Yugguy thats true, sometimes a heavier chassis might consume less or the same with a slightly bigger engine.
I have already checked on honestjohn etc. and in there, users declare a difference of 5mpg between these two if I remember correctly.
Where can I open a subject within the forum? under Engine section?
Thanks.

Welcome. Some people don't like the current C-Class, but FWIW I really like our S205. It's not perfect, but it does everything we need it to do and more. There is some wind noise above 70 mph, but is no worse than other cars I've driven. So far it's averaged 43 mpg over about 20k miles. On a steady motorway run it'll do 50 mpg or thereabouts.

It may be that the E-Class is quieter and is probably a bit softer, but for us it's just a bit too big. Seeing as you have E220d in your profile, perhaps you've already made your choice.

Hi Guys,

Should I go ahead and buy a 2011 W212 Estate with 112,000 miles? I know it's a very broad and perhaps foolish question, but the car is black with ivory interior. What do you all think about this colour? Good for a 35-year-old new dad? or it suits my grandpa more than me? Does it too much look like a taxi?

Regarding the price, it's around £9k, has full MB service history, excellent tyres, discs & pads condition. It has Navi (which I won't use anyway) and Bi-Xenon headlights. I forgot to say it's E250 which is slightly more powerful.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks

Good evening Teslar .

Between the 220 and 250 I believe there is just a few mpg difference .

However there is a big 100Nm difference in peak torque which is made very early in the rev range which makes for more effortless normal driving and a brisk turn of speed when required .

Defo go for the 250 over the 220

In terms of price I think the one you’ve seen is at the top end

Thanks GeeJay, my only concern is that a w212 might feel too big for me too as you are mentioning in your post (since I will move from a 3er to a bigger segment and a larger car). The main reason for a W205 would be its agility and mostly this 1 less second that it needs during acceleration (apparently this is translated to a quicker and lighter feel while driving).

BTW your car is amazing and very beautiful! very good choice of colour!

hi again,
it seems that i will keep my 320d as a daily car and now i am in the market for a joy toy with a restricted budget.
I am concluding in 2005-early 2006 C219 cls500 models (this is due to lower road tax)
In fact i will go to check one today, 2005 around 100k miles.
Please advise what should I check and which specific parts I should focus on.
Thank you.

Few hours ago I went to check this w219 (apologies for mentioning earlier c219)
Advertising was mentioning 1 previous owner but vehicle had 6 previous owners.
I found a painted rear body part and few scratches all around.
I believe rear suspension was in the lowest possible position before engine startup and I am worried for leakages. Salesman insists that is the airmatic normal thing to do when cars are parked and are equipped with airmatic. After the engine startup the rear suspension went up with no issues.
Please advise if I should worry or not cause I thought that it should.hold the heigjh when parked and awitches off..
Dealer will give 6 months warranty that covers engine transmission and suspension. Thanks

Hi to all, guys!
