Hey guys! Having a nightmare to pinpoint the route cause here. Need input from super merc enthusiasts here!

Engine cuts out whilst in motion, steering locks up, no error messages.
Recently fully serviced along with MOT last month. No issues for a year however I have had this issue before over 2.5 years ago, hence the list of repairs below:-

Fuel pump replaced
Replaced front SAM
Replaced wire loom/full wiring harness
Stated motor replaced
Alternator replaced
ECU repaired
Replaced ignition unit

Any feedback would be enormously appreciated as I feel nervous to step in the car again, as you can imagine!

Thank You!

Why did the ecu need repairing? What was the fault? It could be a bad repair, dry joints or a component loosing contact from heat. Need a bit more info please

Hello Uncle Buck! Classic film! It was repaired over 2 years ago in an effort to repair the very same issue, a process of elimination, replacing several possibles we thought it could be - battery, starter motor, alternator etc. I believe it did fix it but unsure whether it was purely down to the ECU.
After fixing this issue, another came along some months after - the car wouldn’t start up! Completely dead, no crack, nothing. Had many AA breakdown call outs from home and work but none the wiser. What eventually cured this was a special order part (Image attached - 305) 60BFAB95-5F3F-4FB6-8B00-2771740E0206.jpegfrom Germany last year when they opened up after lock down and it’s been fine. I simply cant understand how it can be fine for a long while then the original issue suddenly propping up again.

OK, however if the ecu still has a fault or bad/dry joint etc faulty component that wasn't found then the issue can still re appear. I would get it back on a star again at merc. See what it says, get them to run it until it goes again and see what the live data says.

Cps.

may be get it to MB automotive in Loughborough, great bunch of guys and very knowledgeable!

Is a ‘star’ a diagnostic unit? Would it by a main dealer visit? Thank you for this, much appreciated.

Star is specific to MB, a dealer or a MB Independent garage ( cheaper than a main dealer ) will have it , your average garage will not
