I have two websites.

www.property-professionals.co.uk and www.office-seekers.co.uk. Each of these websites has a link on the sidebar to a 'live support'.

Office Seekers has the support link 'strategically dangle' over the border, which I like as it looks a bit different. My web designer has called me mad, and it looks like he has over-ruled me on property-professionals.

I'd love some second (and third..) views on this?

David

You mean this box?

Im siding with your designer im afraid! - with it hanging out it looks like the table hasnt been written correctly on the site.

Also, the sites 'logo' would look a hell of alot better with a black background rather than grey.

That said, I hope you arent paying much for the site's design, it looks some what generic and not what id expect from a professional developer?

(I could make somthing like that, and im self taught) - No disrespect, but if I was paying for a site I would want it looking more upto date.

I don't see either, because I run Firefox, NoScript and AdBlock. :D

I tried looking at the second site, but all I got was a "Problem loading page" error, thus:

The connection has timed out

The server at Home is taking too long to respond.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

No not much. And have been learning how to do it myself also....

Never had any work off any website for what I do. I do know clients look at it after speaking to me though, so really it acts as a brochure. I'm still working on the content for office-seekers.

should not happen. Proper host company as well.

mmm. Is this a big problem or are you a minority? No adds (other than my own) on the site. It is WordPress based.

Your potential customers are a minute minority.

The question you need to ask is, "Is there an overlap between the target minority, and corporate / personal IT security policies?"

If there is, your site is broken by design.

You do not need java/javascript/flash/silverlight to do any of this stuff BTW... just lazy web design.

Perhaps I will ask some existing clients to have a look. They are a bank and there IT tends to be locked down tight...

Well, I tend to agree with your designer. Having the call out off-set from the margin is certainly a way to draw attention to the service, but as the rest of the design is rigidly set to a square layout, it's a bit visually jarring.

If the central body copy was vertically aligned with the images and the quote in the grey box, I think it could work better. The live support image and the text are too close to each other at the moment.

I must ask you to excuse me - my first post on this forum and it's nothing to do with cars!

I have just sold my '98 C200 (W202) for a risible amount of money, leaving my wife's SLK320 (R170) and a Ducati Monster, but...

We're picking up an SL500 (R230) '03 on Wednesday (AMG body kit)! We are very excited. So, 8.8 litre, two person household. (actually, until I sell an elderly BMWK1200RS, we're 10 litres). Shameful really... not.

Dump the little cloud? next to the HOME link.
Dump the green single quote mark.
Make the introduction more prominent.

The fact that you were going for something a little different is a good thing!

However, if I'm to be as picky as I am with the websites I've designed and helped to design - I have to say it's not looking particularly good on either site; I'd have it in the middle of the column - like the section above that has your name - on www.property-professionals.co.uk

Sent you a PM about SEO David!

The second one all looks squashed when compared to the first one.
