Hi All,

Today I was trying to complete the installation of a new pair of Arnott air springs on my 2006 S211 with self levelling rear suspension (not airmatic). Having now done a proper dollop of RTFM for using Star to deflate and remove the existing rear air springs all went reasonably well subject to the usual amount of swearing and skinned knuckles.

The new springs went in and were inflated via Star in accordance with the MB WIS instructions and all went well until right at the end when Star was raising the rear suspension to normal height. It was just a few mm away from being level when there was a loud (and sickening) pop followed by much hissing of air as I watched the rear end start to fall. Investigation revealed that the nearside push fit air connection had popped out of the connector on the new Arnott. A picture is attached of the offending connection.

The solenoid cable and air tube run as per the original MB spring and I assumed these were correct. As per the Arnott YouTube video I simply removed the original fitting and then pushed the tube into the push fit connector. I have to say the instruction with the new springs are non-existent.

What did I do wrong?
Should I have trimmed the end of the pipe first maybe?

The offside is absolutely fine. Possibly because I replaced the cable ties in the exact same position as originally installed on both sides. This seems to nicely secure the push fit on the offside but not on the nearside.

The car is now on jacks until "play" resumes tomorrow but any advice from anyone who has used these Arnott springs will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Bob

THEY ARE AND IT DOES!!

Thank you grober you are a star. The Arnott link on the Jag forum says these instructions are now included in the box but weren't in either of mine. And their YouTube video makes no mention of the final step to lock the pipe in place so is almost misleading.

The sun is shining so hopefully all will be sorted today.

A quick update. I trimmed the pipe by about 1cm and followed the Voss fitting instructions and as hoped/expected a nicely secured connection was the outcome. I also checked the offside was properly secured - which it was. I followed the DAS process again to inflate both springs and the car is now back on its wheels with rear at the right height and all seems good. Only time will tell if all is really 100%. I was and still remain a tad nervous that the Arnotts may have possibly sustained damage in the sudden deflation.

It's a real shame the Arnott video and instructions on their website don't mention how to secure the pipe by pulling it back. I would have then realised that the nearside one wasn't locking which was almost certainly due to the OE fitting being slighly over tightened.

Thanks again for the help and advice.

The air spring will not be effected in anyway with being deflated suddenly.

Always trim the pipe as the new connector required a new section of pipe to grip onto.

Glad it's sorted.
