I’ve not driven a diesel for some years but that Rickover seems high. Can you smell burning?

If it has them then it could be that the car is trying to regenerate the DPF by burning off carbon deposits.

During regen the car might hold on to gears longer and have a higher idle tickover speed.

A warmed-up E350 diesel should be idling at 550-600rpm, or 800rpm if DPF regenerating. What is the engine temperature gauge reading? Does the air conditioning work properly?

Thanks for the reply. It’s strange but today after few weeks of high idling it looks normal again…

if the car is trying to regen - you can tell by the smell of buring when you park up and walk past the front, driver's side wheel.
