On 2 separate occasions in unsociable hours I have seen 2 jolly new looking full fat Rangies on the hard shoulder of the A2 (Dover bound !) With both front and rear number plates removed.

What's that all about then ????

When not cruising the ghetto, I can actually spend upwards of 60 hours a week driving the London Dover A2 M2 M20 A20 corridor and it's definitely not uncommon to see high end RHD cars with hastily attached Romanian (other former Soviet controlled Eastern European countries are available) number plates. But the rather dumped nature of these 2 Rangies suggested remote disablement ??? Not owning a modern car (apart from the Kia which I'm pretty sure no never do well would want to nick) is remote disabling actually a thing ????

Yes some security systems do allow a controlled immobilisation after the car has been stolen. Usually these activate when the engine is next switched off, some when the vehicle has stopped, however I have read that some will bring the vehicle to a co trolled stop as long as specific parameters are met.

I believe some antitheft systems can be set to ring-fence the vehicle, bringing it to a stop when it exceeds a certain distance from 'home'

Ive heard of a certain finance company that will disable the car if you miss a payment or so but them 2 are definitely nicked

So the cars were nicked, fitted with fake plates by the thieves, then abandoned at the roadside (because they were disabled?), and the thieves took the false plates with them? Is this the likely scenario here?

What would the police do , they won’t break in to Look for id. They won’t tow it if it’s not causing a hazard .
The criminal can check to see if it has tracker because it will be removed if this was the case.
If the car is still there the next day , put some plates on it and drive to where you choose for stripping for parts or placing in a container ?

As a Beemer owner......soz!......I have noticed a huge amount of RHD secondhand parts for sale on a well known Internet auction site from sellers in Lithuania.

There's a good secondhand spares market in Eastern Europe. Companies from Lithuania send car transporters to the UK to pick up RHD insurance write offs and strip them down for parts, many of which are suitable for LHD as well. I've been to one of the larger outfits in Vilnius and it's quite sophisticated with teams stripping off cars and every part barcoded and stored in a large warehouse.
