Hi

I need to urgently buy either one front wheel or a set of 18" AMG alloys for my car, I have seen some on E-bay, how can I find out if these are genuine.

Many thanks

Tan

Price :D

Genuine ones will have the inset AMG logo, for a start whereas replicas tend not to - maybe there are part numbers inside the wheels too?

As mentioned, they'll have the AMG logo on the font face. Beware of some that say "AME", "AMC", etc. (in exactly the right font)!

Yes there should also be a Mercedes part number on the rear face of the wheel (usually on one of the spokes).

If buying a set most fakes sold have all the wheels in the set the same width. Genuine sets have a staggered setup (different width for the front and backs) apart from a very few models that had same width all round so check what was available for you car.

Post up the ebay link and we can have a proper look for you....

I have also managed to contact Chris @ Alloy Wheels Direct, so if he can find me some wheels then I won't have to worry.

Above look genuine. Ask him for the part number stamped on the front alloy and the part number for the back alloy.

Euromerc also often has single amg alloys. Try him too.

these look the real deal to me :)

These have also come up, to me they look real, my only doubt is that they don't look like they are the E-class version, they look more like the SL version.

Yup the AMG split-rims on my SL came from Alloy Wheels Direct - they sourced them from Germany.

Parts & Accessories : Mercedes AMG 18" Alloys

The ET's are ET30 and ET33, so yes they look like the right fitment but they still do look different to the other set.

Edit: Just received the part numbers via voicemail and as I thought they are A230 part numbers, so the SL size rather than the E-class.

As mentioned above, it's the ET (Offset) thats important. You should also be aware that MB have used both M12 and M14 Dia wheel bolts as M14 Bolts WILL NOT into the 12mm Clearence holes. It's not the end of the world but will cost aprox £50.00 to get the holes enlarged on a CNC machine, somewhere local to you.

Both sets will fit a w211, the SL set or the E set. I do have a set of AMG style IV for a w211 if you like that design. The 211 E class and 230 SL class use M14 bolts.

Thought I should also mention that just because the Pt. No. starts with 230 doesn,t mean that it would only fit a 230 SL, the 202 uses 210, 208 and 124 parts, he 210 will use likewise.
Also a lot MB wheels had two Pt. No.'s one chassis generated one, and an accessory item one, this would just indicate whether the wheel was originally supplied new on a car, or whether it was bought as an accessorary when new.
For 100% confirmation you will need the ET numbers.
