I want this so much

it has comand:

interesting... very interesting... ;)

but as i've suspected after considering fitting myself, it doesnt quite fit snugly. it even appears not to be pushed in all the way in that pic.... i think some shaving of either the comand or the console trim would be needed for a snug fit.

EDIT - how did he manage to fit the whole comand and still keep the ashtray? its only SINGLE DIN - is this the taxi console that is fitted here?

EDIT2 - looks like the space between the end of the gearknob and the ashtray is smaller than usual - ie where the heated seat switches would go. has he just moved everything closer at an angle??

very interesting ;)

I`ve heard you might get rid of the w124 to get an S class:eek:.For this one does make sense;)

i think fitting it would be quite easy on a 124, aslong as you have the speed pulse. i retrofitted COMAND 2.0 into my CLK quite easily. however because the 124 only has single in you need to loose the ashtray and "adjust" the dash trim to fit it i think which has put me off so far.

Looks like a bit of a bodge to be honest , the walnut trim is cracked to the left of the ashtray , and it isn't seated properly.

I suspect to do it properly you would have to have some sort of a fascia adaptor made up.

comand looks bodged and the wood trim looks chipped... could be photos though..

From the outside it looks like the perfect sister for my 500E!

Spot on :thumb:

yeah i reckon its had the comand pushed in (but not quite all in) and then the ashtray bodged below it at an angle

i've looked at doing this myself and i think you'd need to file down the plastic lower edges of the comand unit to make it a snug fit.

then you'd be left with half the space of where the ashtray used to be. i think this could be filled in via the use of a new bit of wood cut carefully from another bit of trim from another 124 (ie door capping etc) or make a black plastic cover and fit some switches or something to give it some purpose.

its something i've not ruled out. :thumb:

DIY in the world of electronics. for me, stands for Dont Involve Yourself. Which is why I have PMd Alfie to have a look at this thread. It will probably work out more expensive than my 124 is worth but for me, my 124 is a keeper, so pay back will eventually come.

Just buy a becker indeanapolis... trust me its fantastic.

Thanks jaymanek, over to fleabay to get an idea of what you are talking about.

the fact that you can probably buy a single-din stereo that has a flip screen for nav, dvd etc is one of the reasons why i havnt bothered - yet. COMAND 2.0 is quite old-fashioned now compared to other solutions, but i like the OEM look.

I`ve though about it,but you can`t push all the way.

Don't forget that it can still be worth installing Comand on a low value car (no insult intended), because when you come to sell the car, sell the Comand separately and get quite a bit of your money back.

problem here is to fit it and have it look correct in the 124, you'll have to modify something, either the car trim or the comand itself, so after you've done this you cant sell either without the other without having serious defects.
