Why can't you map both to the same performance ?

There's a good 'un to get you started over the New Year period ......... :thumb:

It appears not all 220 and 250's are the same. Some have twin turbos others don't.

There are some tuners that say the 220CDI and 250CDi (the twin turbo ones) end up at the same place when remapped, however when I took My 2014 E220 CDI in for a map they couldn't find any improvement at all despite spending all day trying.

The car spent most of the day strapped to a rolling road trying to figure out why they couldn't make a difference.

So I guess it's hit and miss.

i thought the 250 cdi were twin turbo 4cyl and 220 CDI single turbo, ooooops!

Our 220 is twin turbo, it's a CDI, however the newer 2104/5 220's that are bluetec I think are single turbo.

It's not entirely clear cut.

Some also suggested injectors were different, however the part number for the injectors on our 220 are identical to the 250 of the same year. That's the limit of my knowledge though.

Isn't there a slight difference in gearbox and the torque it can handle? I.e looking at the gearbox numbers, can vaguely remember someone mentioning this on here

It turns out my e220 bluetec coupe is single turbo even though was told it was exactly same engine as my twin turbo 2013 c220 when I ordered it.

I thought the same about my C200 cdi and the C220, just a quick laying of hands on the ECU and all would be well, after all they're both the same engine right?

Until I looked at the differences in my Haynes manual and noticed the 220 has an extra fuel pump just for starters...

Please get it right they are sales executives

It is confusing though. Why a twin turbo on the C220 and single on the E220? And both with the same bhp and torque, which is the main thing but possibly slightly different driving characteristics.

We could save all this nonsense if you just all bought a C350 CDi which is the sweet spot in the range.

Eco tune in glasgow told me my e250 facelift model he would be lucky if he could get me an extra 10 bhp as they are highly tuned from the factory and for any improvements I woukd need to upgrade the injectors as they are at full capacity £1200 plus and it's not really worth it,

Agree with that. The Merc 4-pot sounds like a bag of nails compared to that in the Audi A4 we had previously (although in almost all other respects the Merc was much nicer).

Of course, if people are referring to W205, they no longer do a C350 CDi. Not quite sure what we'll replace ours with.
