Hi Chaps,

On my BMW 5 Series if i forget to lock it, it will automatically lock itself after about 10 mins or so.

Does anyone know if it is possible in a C Coupe.

Check in the cluster menus, should be option under Convenience menu.

thanks mate, but not there, let me go have a double check..

The car will lock itself after a few minutes if you unlocked it with the remote fob but did not actually open the door. This is for in case the fob gets accidentally pressed while you are near the car e.g. when the remote is in your pocket.

But I am not sure that having the car lock itself automatically if you park it and simply walk away is a good thing?

found the menu and its ON, just testing, left the car open, will now wait and see if it locks itself, i'm sure it does not..

You need to lock it then if you unlock it without opening your doors then it should unlock by itself.

Mine works

ok got it, that works. I was looking for it to autolock even if i forget to lock it..

thanks

Sorry, I misread your post, was thinking of the auto-lock after moving off.

I don't think MB ever had what you describe, only as already mentioned, locking again if no doors opened after remote unlocking.

no probs mate, at least i know what i have now.

cheers

If you think about it logically if you got out of the car and stood chatting to a mate, it would be a bit annoying if the car then locked itself with the keys still inside.

This is a common feature on most cars with central locking these days (including current MB cars)

If the car is locked and you unlock it using the fob but don't open any of the doors, the car will lock itself again after a few minutes.

The idea is to protect you against accidentally pressing the unlock button (say when the fob is in your pocket) and leaving your car vulnerable.

It is not possible for this feature to lock the keys in the car.

To the OP

Yes your car will have this and it works exactly the same as the BMW.

So, you agree with what I posted!

I believe what the OP is looking for is that the car automatically locks itself in the event the driver forgets. As in, park up close door walk away and 10min later the car locks.

This is not the same as re-locking after an 'accidental' remote unlock.

That feature was not available on the BMW unless you count the Keyless Comfort Access feature with locks and unlocks when you are close to the car

Ah, good point!! :thumb:

I guess MB Keyless Go will give a similar function? Just walk away from the car and it will auto-lock? But this is proximity controlled not time?
