it seems that my S211 E220 cdi has a vibration at idle when cold.

Its not excessive but seems a little harsh then clears when revs are raised and disappears when it warms a bit. Being in neutral or in drive makes no difference.

It could also be that its always been like that but I've just never noticed it before.

Is this a trait of this engine or could there be an issue?

Ta for any replies.

Air in fuel lines? Do you have a bush gone on vibration damper ( not sure if you have one on that engine)

I was thinking possibly engine mounts.

I do have a slight rattle from what I think is an exhaust heat shield or maybe a loose baffle. Perhaps there is an exhaust mount adrift. Will take a look.

Sometimes as engine mounts begin to feel their age exhaust assemblies are forced to take on the role of engine vibration dampers---till their mounts, subjected to stresses/movement they were never intended to bear, also begin to feel the strain?

Had a quick look earlier and the rear silencer heat shield is pretty-well adrift. Looks like *itch to get at so will get my local garage to see to it. They are a tyre and exhaust outfit too so will get them to check out the exhaust mountings. A trusted garage so will not rip me off.

Are the engine mounts on the OM646 difficult/expensive to replace?

What year? Would a Valeo radiator cause this?

Its a 2006 which is post-valeo I think.

Its unrelated to the transmission as it happens in park, drive or neutral. Transmission performs perfectly.

Suspect poss engine mounts but symptoms disappear when engine warms a bit.

Just come home in it, cold start and no symptoms whatsoever. May just be an old fart like me imagining things :dk:

Solved.

Heat shield secured and mechanic found a broken weld on the back box support bracket. Now re-welded and all vibrations and rattles gone.
