Following on from tales of contaminated fuel killing sensors,

"Regularly checking and replacing the lambda sensor is worth the effort.

The lambda sensor must work properly in order to comply with emission limits and reduce fuel consumption. This means it should be checked every 20,000 miles and be replaced when the recommended replace interval is reached.

Test intervals every 20,000 miles
Sensor type replace intervals

Unheated: Every 30,000 miles / Every 50,000 miles
Heated 1st generation: Every 60,000 miles
Heated 2nd generation: Every 100,000 miles
Planar sensors: Every 100,000 miles "

How many people do that then?

I guess any manufacturer will advocate changing them.
I leave alone until they show a code or related problem.

Bazzle

I'm with Bazzle on this one. I recall the story of one of the big old firms (might have been Unilever, certainly that type of firm) that had an employee suggestion scheme. The most successful one ever was to print the word "Repeat" after the instructions on the shampoo bottle.
