With the change of name we have a change in ticket types. Reading the new ticket details the standard non- refundable ticket now is for the date and time that you book, in the past you could turn up a couple of hours early and if space was available you could go on an earlier train ( if in a more expensive time slot you just paid the difference), the same applies if late. Reading the booking conditions it looks like you need to pay the full cost of a single ticket if you miss your slot. The new refundable ticket brings back the ability to cross within a 2 hour window of your booking ( again with an extra time if the crossing is in a different price band), you can also cancel and amend your booking ( subject to an admin fee). The difference between the refundable is about £40 for each leg and requires both legs to be booked as refundable.
Looking back through my old holiday bookings the price for the standard booking had really jumped and with effectively a £80 surcharge for a refundable ticket to gain the flexibility of the old ticket types it’s good extra revenue for the company. I expect that we will see many more cars racing in the final leg of their journey to hit their booked time.
