Leaking diesel - Fuel pump location?

<div class="bbWrapper">Hi all,<br /> The vehicle is an old but normally trusted C220 Cdi Sports automatic (yr 2002 &amp; 254,000+mls).<br /> <br /> Just after parking, diesel can be seen dripping quickly from the underside tray, close to the rear nearside wheel. After a little while the drips slow down. My thinking is that the fuel line remains slightly pressurised for a few mins after stopping, hence the rapid drips which then slow.<br /> <br /> Does that sound right? And anyone know where the fuel pump is on a year 2002 C220 Cdi Sports?<br /> Tks</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">It's probably the fuel pipes on the pump that are leaking, rather than the pump itself. To be even more precise, I'd say the clips fastening the pipes to the pump are the culprit. When mine leaked, I replaced them all with Jubilee clips and haven't had any problems since.<br /> <br /> To answer your question, it's high up on the front of the engine. Follow a pipe forward from the fuel filter canister and you'll find it.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">That would be a reasonable assumption, plus the pipes are the easiest thing to check. Follow them forward from the fuel filter (the baked bean can thingy on the passenger side of the engine, it has two pipes from it), and if you get fuel on your fingers when you reach the pump it's virtually certain it's the clips.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">If it is dripping diesel (small amount) after you park the car, its probably fuel pipes. One of the diesel pipes in my car was dripping and I found that out after I remove the engine covers, I could see the pipe soaked in diesel. Replaced the pipe with a good quality hose, I think it was 3/8&quot; dia pipe and it's been fine since then.</div>

What puzzled me was that the drip was from the rear underside tray, though with the responses to my posting, I think I've rationalised the reason. I'll have a look tomorrow. Many Tks</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">First thing to do is to drop the two plastic undertrays at the rear of the car. They are covering the fuel lines and the saddle fuel tank under the rear seats. You may not have to drop them completely just at their rear fastenings so they drop down a bit. You should then be able to pin point the source of the leak-- fuel lines or tank. Its possible but unlikely that a leak stemming from the engine compartment is going to track back along fuel lines that far before dripping down at the rear.<br /> ps the feed fuel pump is inside the tank and accessed from inside the car.</div>

I've just checked for leaks in the engine bay, and no leaks there, plus the tray beneath the engine is dry. I've not used the vehicle since I noticed the problem so it was not dripping. However, I started the engine and let it run for a few mins and could see some oil starting to accrete on the edge of the rear tray. Must be a very small leak.</div>
